Trying to find a gasket for under the exterior mirror for my '57 DeSoto.

Anyone have any leads?

Not my car in the pic, but mirrors are the same...

Where is America's ingenuity gone I ask myself sometimes...

What I would do, for instance, is to just get, say a mousepad, of a piece of hard rubber or some thick plastic/nylon sheet, and cut out the contours of the mirrorbase out of that.
The gasket is just to prevent damage to the paint, so you could use pretty much any material for that.

Gary Goers sells the gaskets, but I made mine out of a sheet of rubber bought from an industrial supply.

I don't have a gasket but your title was quite enjoyable.

Yet, Goers sells them, but I'd cut my own, too, Rosy, unless you already have another Goers order ready to send off.

The gasket itself is rather thin, and has a very narrow, raised lip all the way around its periphery into which the bottom edge of the hollow mirror support fits. The existing gasket that I do have is original, but it has warped just ever so slightly. Even that very slight change in its original shape makes the way the gasket fits, very sloppy indeed. When my car was black it didn't matter so much, but now an ill fitting gasket would stick out like a sore thumb against the light green paint.

It did occur to me to make one myself of course, but if I could find the real thing I am pretty sure that it would fit and look a lot better than my attempt at a home made jobby.

I am glad to hear that Gary Goers has them. Thanks for the lead, guys. I must have missed seeing them in my rather dog-eared copy of his catalogue. I do happen to have another order coming my way from Gary, so I'll ask him to send a gasket or two.

Thank you for the info, guys!

Today I am back to work making a new glove box liner - it's kind of fun!

Not sure if I will bother flocking it or not, as was done back in the day...hmmmm...

Awww man, as soon as I saw this Header, the hair on the back of my neck stood up !!! Memories of the fabulous voice of Ella Fitzgerald, and the thumping rhythm of Count Basie's band swinging along, underpinning her in one of the GREATEST swing recordings ever...........Pure heaven......

Here's page 44 from Gary Goers' catalog. If it's item #43, the last catalog I have has it priced at $2.55.
