Expert Posts: 1384 Location: Ocala, Florida | I like the simple trim. These old DeSoto convertibles must be a a common as ketchup! I prefer this monotone car myself instead of the green on green car also going up for bid. I guess if this goes for the estimate it would be a 'steal'! http://www.auctionsamerica.com/events/feature-lots.cfm?SaleCode=AF1... Location: Under the X in Texas | I love the color sweep double trim on '57 DeSotos but I love the monotone single trim like this car even more. The seats have very likely been redone- at least I don't recall an all-vinyl, tri-tone combination being available. Bit unfortunate this heavy convertible didn't get the 4-bbl engine option.

Expert Posts: 1488 Location: New Castle PA | If you're bidding on this beautiful car, you should probably do more homework. The black car does NOT have power windows (I have other pictures), but the white car does. The cowl codes on the white one don't show power windows or power brakes. I'd guess the cowl tag was reproduced incorrectly, or (I hope not!) the VIN was transferred to another car (shame on seller if so). I guess it's also possible someone added power windows to a manual-window car, but it's not very likely. Perhaps, as someone suggested to me, the doors were bad on the black car and entire doors with PW swapped in. I'm not accusing anyone of wrong-doing here -- just advising to be careful and do some checking on things before plunking down a lot of money. Edited by 57desoto 2014-08-02 9:30 AM

Ed- I just checked an older post from 2009, and I wrote that the black car above had power steering, power brakes, and power windows. I have photos of this black car in my computer but not on my iPhone, which I use instead of computer now. The car was in Michagen and put away in around 1963 as I recall from what sideshow bob relayed to me when he acquired about the car in 2008.

Expert Posts: 1488 Location: New Castle PA | christine-lover, YOU ARE CORRECT, and I am in error. Sorry. Here's a picture of the interior of that car, and indeed it DOES have power windows. I goofed! It happens. Must have just glanced at the doors and saw the Firedome-style handles, different than the Fireflites, and thought they were the roll-ups. Mea Culpa, everyone!!! HOWEVER, the guy who wrote down the cowl tag codes from me got them off of the white version of this car, and according to him, at least, there is no number under PW or PB (power windows or power brakes), so it may be that the cowl tag has been altered, and reproduced with incorrect information. THERE'S another possibility, too, that ALL convertibles had power windows and power brakes, in which case there would NOT be any number on the cowl tag indicating that. If so, then this is a major update and additional information for cowltag decoders (including me). I'll have to go through all my convertible car pics to see if I have any with manual windows or brakes. This car DOES have PW AND PB. C-L, thanks for catching my error! Expert Posts: 1488 Location: New Castle PA | Just checked my Ross Roy data book. It says power windows are not standard equipment, even on convertibles. SO, either cowl tag has been altered or the guy who wrote down the codes for me misread something!

Location: Parts Unknown | Ed, PW were not standard equipment. I believe you even told me they were optional on Adventurers after 56, where I thought they were always standard equipment through 59. Cowl tags are not always marked for options on a car. Did you see the recent 58 Firedome coupe with a four letter paint code ? ! I suspect they sometimes goofed. Interesting car. I prefer it in dark colors, and would most certainly take advantage of its monotone paint to put some body colored wheels and dog dishies on it. I suspect the spartan exterior and very unusual power window option says this was a special order car.

Expert Posts: 1488 Location: New Castle PA | Yup, Doc. Correctomundo. I even checked with a '57 DeSoto Firedome convertible owner I know who said his car has manual brakes, so neither PB or PW were standard on Firedome converts.
