In '56 Dodge offered corner fender guards to be added to the outer ends of the front and rear bumpers.   I presume they are bumper gauge stampings.  Rather large, chromed.  I'm not talking "Van Auken" tubular aftermarket guards.   I can't find any internet pictures of the factory option.  Could someone post pics of their car with them or others they have seen?   Thanks.

Wayne, I have some pictures on my computer at home and will post them this evening. I do not think that the option was for the rear as well, only the front to my knowledge. The option was usually put on with another optional bumper piece, a cross bar between the front bumper guards. Also, I have seen the corner accessory bumpers you speak of called "elephant ears".

I found a couple of pictures on the net that show the guards...

Correct. It was a three piece bumper accessory package for the front bumper only. And yes, they are
bumper gauge stampings.

Here is a pic of my car. The side flares were part of a package with the center bar. I have the accessory books at home, so I will post that information this weekend. I can say this is a pretty rare option. It was also available in 56, but one person I spoke to said there were slight differences between the center bar on 55 or 56 dodges.

Thanks guys. Does the bumper have to have extra hole(s) drilled to attach these? Or do they use existing bumper bolt holes? Thought I had seem another option on the rear of one car several years back - guess not !

I think everything bolts through the existing holes in the bumper . . . but I can take a look tonight. Nothing for the rear as far as I know.

I will let David confirm how it is mounted to the bumper, but my recollection is that holes are needed in the bumper and bumper guards to mount this accessory.

I've got a pair of the "elephant ears" and yes I would need to drill a hole to mount them.
I'm looking for the center piece for 1955. Im sure it must be different from 56 as the bumper guards are.

Thord is correct. After crawling under my car, it looks like two additional holes need to be drilled for the side guards. The center guards use the existing second hole for the standards bumper guards and two additional holes need to be drilled or the side guards. I forgot to bring my 56 Dodge "accessory guide" but I will snap a couple of pictures of that later today for posting.
