Expert Posts: 1906 Location: Ontario, Canada | I've seen several markings there as well. They made no sense to me at the time so I dismissed them. Perhaps look at it this way. MAYBE the only reason why these markings and/or a copy of the broadcast sheet was affixed to the glovebox was to ID the dash so the workers at that station could install all the correct knobs, switches and devices as well as the many, many variations of the dash wiring harness for that/any particular car. 57 wiring differences were crazy!! Push button start, key start, single speed wipers, variable speed wipers, w/s washers, map light, no map light, dome/map light switch -------- and on and on!! ALL required separate wires etc. Remember, all this factory installation was done from behind the dash. These workers needed an in-your-face guide to get it all correct. The entire dash/underhood wiring harness (specific for that particular car) was installed at this stage. The whole assembly was then later installed in the car. I think it would be interesting to relate yellow markings versus the presence of a broadcast sheet or remnants of bits of masking tape to the actual options on the car. I'd be willing to bet that the cars that showed only yellow markings were very basic, low optioned cars. Hey! Just a thought!! Greg

Posts: 19146 Location: bishop, ca | The Broadcast Sheet that ended-up attached to the dashboard was the document that showed/described to the dashboard sub-assembly station precisely how that assembly was to be assembled and painted. It was attached to the back of the glovebox so that, when the completed-and-painted assembly arrived at the assembly line, the Line Supervisor, there, could confirm that 'this' dash was to be installed on 'that' car. The Supervisors might, or might not, have had to remove the B.-sheets from the back of the glove box in order to confirm the right destination for a dash assembly. That/those B.-sheets contain hand-written "Special Instructions" on them that other 'found' B.-sheets do not have on them, pertaining to other aspects of the building/painting of all of the car bodies. Night shift. 305th car of the shift. I stand corrected. Just looked at the '59 Custom Royal Lancer broadcast sheet and noticed the "N" on it. Hamtramck had two assembly lines, so I'm now thinking that "N" stood for the North line? Any '59 broadcast sheets with something else in that column?

Posts: 19146 Location: bishop, ca | The 'dash configuration' is completely determined by the hand-written notations in the Broadcast Sheet's "Special Instructions" at its bottom area, plus any/all of the other dash options, which are identified within the body of the B.-Sheet. And, sometimes, those features' option-codes were, even, 'circled' by a Line Supervisor, to confirm their presence on a B.-Sheet. There are grease-penciled "N", a "C", and/or an "S" that are scribbled in various places on a B.-Sheet, apparently to confirm that the completed-and-painted dashes are properly inspected and approved.
