Veteran Posts: 206 Location: California | I recently completed the reconditioning of my 60 Plymouth Suburban. Its a low mileage (35K) one family car that has been sitting for many years. It now looks great with its new paint and original interior.I am enjoying my time behind the wheel , except for having to keep my foot in it in order to keep up with the crazy drivers in Southern California. We drive fast down here. The engine, a 30D Economy, is the 225 slant six with a single barrel carter.. I know there was a two barrel carb option at some point offered in the slant six. When was this first offered? I would like to keep things looking stock, so I don't want a manifold with to many vacuum ports to plug up and a major change in carb linkage. Any recommendation on a 2bbl swap for this early slant six?

Extreme Veteran Posts: 444 Location: North of the 49th | Hi The "Super Six" 2bbl was available for the first time in the 1977 model year... but for a good article on the Super Six check out this link: http://www.slantsix.org/articles/supersix/article.htm With regards to the carburetor, I must say that the Carter Ball and Ball is the better choice over the Holley and the article doesn't give a super detailed look at the Slant six BBD and at least to me gives you the impression that the 318 carb is virtually the same thing...they are not , the slant six carb has a smaller venturi 1 1/16" as opposed to the 1 3/16" of the 318 , the front wall of the carb is 1/8" thicker as well this helps to relieve the choke during cold engine operation. there is also a limited step-up piston used to prevent excessively rich mixtures during low speed part throttle operation. The slant responds well to the 2 barrel modification as I did this mod to my '63 wagon and it's performance is much improved and feels similar to a small V-8.

Expert Posts: 1506 Location: Colo Spgs | Hola Joe For $$$ 101 Reasons you can do the Power Enhancement in "steps". 1. From a local pick & pull get a Engine Cooling Fan from any 1980'ish Belt Driven Jeep Straight 6 1a. From a local pick & pull get a Engine Cooling Fan from any 1980'ish Belt Driven - Rear Wheel Drive MoPar 1b From a local pick & pull get a Engine Cooling Fan from any 1980'ish Belt Driven - Rear Wheel Drive GM For a Fluid Drive Unit ( aka Clutch Fan ) that fits your Slant Six - It can be from any of the above. *** To any Dyno this is worth 15 plus HP. *** 2. Do your Exhaust System as a "Feather Duster". This means to use a Exhaust Pipe Diameter the same size as your Manifold to Exhaust Pipe Gasket - to The Muffler. **** This is the same as what was used with the later sold "Super Six" - Slant Six's. **** Rodger & Gabby Colo Spgs Edited by Rodger 2014-10-29 4:17 PM

Extreme Veteran Posts: 444 Location: North of the 49th | tberd62 - 2014-10-29 12:39 PM Any idea what the model number on the Slant six 2bbl Carter should be? Hi I apologize as I could have provided a few numbers but there are quite a few as trucks had the Super Six as well Here are a few starting with 1977, 8087S, 8127S, 8090S(California) 8110S, 8149S,8151S,8176S (truck) , 8290S. The best way to identify a slant six BBD is by the front wall of the air horn I've included a couple of pics to show you the difference between the Slant BBD and the 318BBD, the thicker wall is the Slant BBD as per my description. The best way is to snag the whole setup from a donor car if possible.
