I just installed a new turn signal cancel mechanism in my 58 savoy. The turn signals work but when I turn the wheel they cancel immediately rather than on the return. I was wondering if there was some sort of spring between the turn signal rod/steering wheel housing/ and turn signal cancel.

With a little bit of tension, it works aces, it seems like there should be something there.

If anyone can post a picture or schematic of what it's supposed to look like I'd much appreciate it.

Thanks.

Most likely the tag that clicks the turn signal off is missing or broken

Look at the picture and I bet the one off your wheel is gone

If it is like my 55 Chrysler, you have to 'adjust' the internal arm that intercepts the tab in the above picture. Adjust as in bend slightly. Too much and it will trip in any rotation. Just enough in will only catch on the return. I had to pull the steering wheel off and on a couple of times to get it to work right. Helps if you can jack up the front end while you play with it.
