Expert Posts: 1506 Location: Colo Spgs | Hola Paul As you know ---the 8.00 x 14's was a "Performance only" Tyre. The most sold look of them was with Black Walls. This means they can be found just about every place that you call --- in your home town. Any tyre shop can tell you the diameter --- if you take them an older one. If you are in the "planning stage" and your vehicle has never experienced this size - take what you have and they will help you. The new radials have a fatter foot print than what any tyre of the era had. This means the force that gets placed while driving on Your Steering is more than any era engineer planned for. Very soon you will be reading all types of "use this or that size --- I do on my car" Rodger & Gabby Colo Spgs Edited by Rodger 2014-11-27 10:08 PM

Elite Veteran Posts: 705 Location: California | So the 215 75 14 would be the same height as an 800 14? The car is a 301 power pak 3 spd auto and currently has 205s on it. It turning way too many rpms on the Fwy. At 65 the secondaries are open and the poor engine is wound out.

Veteran Posts: 139 | Paul, I have to disagree with much of what Rodger is telling you in his reply. Let me first say I own a 1958 Coronet with P215/75R14 tires. First, 8.00 x 14 was/is not a "performance size". It was a very common tire size in the late 50's / early 60's. You can not "go to your neighborhood tire store" and buy these. Understand that 14 inch passenger car relacement tires are becoming hard to find and the manufacturer choices are few. As a side note, 13 inch tires are completely unavailable except from the collector car tire vendors, so if one has an 80's GM subcompact, for example, tires are unavailable now. I agree the 205/14's are extremely small for your Plymouth. Going to 215's will help lower the RPM's at highway speeds slightly, but I don't think you will be happy with the result. My Dodge's speedometer reads high with the 215's, and I think they look a little small as well. I would go to Universal Tire's website and search for 8.00 x 14 bias ply tires, then research their dimensions. Then take those dimensinons to research which tire to choose from American Classic. My guess would be the 225's will come closest to the original diameter of the 800's.

Elite Veteran Posts: 705 Location: California | Thank you very much for the info.... Seems every Plymouth I get has got a low gear ratio. Hopefully the 225 75 14 will be the correct height.

Expert 5K+ Posts: 8445 Location: Perth Australia | I havnt had mine Either of them) on the highway yet to see how they rev I think the diff ratio in mine is 3.3, but not sure on that (lots has happened since I looked at the diff) Just remember, high rpms and low speeds on the highway = bigger burnouts when you take off
