Extreme Veteran Posts: 480 Location: The Great Northwest | Highway Patrol reruns are the best show for old car watching since they are doing a lot of driving around. Interesting that most of the bad guys drive Mopars and all of the police cars are two door models of various makes. It becomes a challenge trying to put bad buys in the back seat of two door cop cars. Still a great place to see a lot of FL cars driving around..............

Elite Veteran Posts: 663 Location: Oakley, Ill | Back then, the cops bought the cheapest cars that fit their needs, usually the lowest line 2 door sedan with the biggest hottest engine they could get. Also remember, back then, you could actually use the back seat of a 2 door car, including access by full grown adults. Unlike today's cars, where the rear seat is actually a padded package shelf.

As far as I know, my car never saw California until I owned it, and as I have the history back to the 2nd owner having it in Syracuse, NY and taking it to Madison, WI (where I bought it), I doubt this is the same car. Shame, ... as it probably got junked in FAR better condition than mine was just because it had fins. I often ponder how fate works and how the chance of the caring owner, or forgotten derelict work against the odds of something being "used up" and carted off for scrap. That TV car was probably a very nice car when it was sold off as a TV/movie prop, but had passed its "usefulness" as a promotional item or normal, everyday street scene car, and who knows where it went from there ? Sure is inspiring to see one going down the road like that ! It's a shame the producers did not push their actors to behave more naturally (laughable). The fight and cuffing scenes are a joke ! Who told them how to hold a firearm ? Sheesh ... you'd end up shooting yourself holding one like the cop arresting the DeSoto driver ! Cool show, though. I love the background street and highway scenes. Straight out of my childhood.

Location: Indiana | i'm one of two '55 Coronets in town, both are four-door sedans... the other is a "cop car"... our paths have crossed only twice and i've yet to get the chance to fully speak with the owner... i thought restoration projects could only be "cop cars" if they were ORIGINALLY a "cop car" and you have 'documentation' to prove it - is this true? i have been unable to find any evidence that Dodge had any "fleet" cars (police or taxi) prior to '56 - Plymouth and DeSoto, yes, but not Dodge...

Elite Veteran Posts: 782 Location: Edmonton, Alberta | FwdLk56..... I'd be inclined to totally agree with you, unless the car is new enough to have a data tag indicating that it is equipped with a police package. "One thing that is absolutely verboten in this hobby is to try to pass off a clone as a real package car. If your project is a clone, be honest about it. Nothing will get you ostracized by other copcar collectors faster than getting caught passing off a clone as the real thing" From this Allpar article: http://www.allpar.com/squads/collecting.html Edited by sconut1 2014-10-21 11:16 PM
