I have searched previous threads but can not find any info on how to remove the ignition switch from the dash in my 60 DeSoto. I assume I would turn the key and depress a release button if I could find it. Or is it as simple as un-screwing the bezel?

Are you talking the whole switch or removing the just the keyed cylinder?
I've never actually removed the whole switch, but isn't it simply held into the dash with the large chrome nut on the dash face? Once you've removed the nut, then the whole switch should come out? If it is similar to my 1960 Plymouth, once you have the whole switch removed, on the side in the threaded area where that large chrome nut was, there is a small brass pin. Put the key in and turn the cylinder all the way and push in the brass pin. With the pin pushed in, pull on the key and the cylinder should pull right out with the key.
Another style I had[maybe GM and Ford?], you could leave the whole switch in the dash. Next to the key slot is a small hole. Again, put the key in and turn it and push a tiny allen wrench or some small pin into the hole while pulling on the key and the cyl. should pull out.

As the forum's resident locksmith, I concur with the above post!! Simply unscrew the threaded retainer bezel around the front of the lock and pull the switch out from behind/under the dash and unplug the wiring harness. To remove the cylinder from the switch, exactly as he said above, turn the key to the run position and depress the retainer and pull the cylinder out!

Thanks. I was stumped because the bezel would not move. Got it done with some liquid wrench.

It takes a minimum amount of skill to "hotwire" a FL car without damaging it within 3 minutes of getting inside, BTW.
