been thinkin about saving these cables for sometime now . in the end it was real easy and looks good after .
the hose is 7/16 fuel line . i used just a short piece but would recommend at least 12" . it'll be a lot easier if the cable is out or the shifter end is exposed . make sure the fitting close to the trans end is real clean using any kind of solvent , like brake cleaner or thinner , along with trimming back any old cable outer lining . slide the length of hose over the cable down to the trans. end . use black pcv sealant around the trans end of hose , while
holding the hose close to the old cable fitting , use something to force a little sealant up the hose , then apply a little all around the old cable fitting . slide the hose over the old fitting . this
is a tight fit , so be prepared to force it on but it's not real hard to do . after the hose is in place at the farthest most on point , use a 3/4 fuel line clamp to clamp it into place .
now add sealant to the top if you like but it won't be needed as the top of the hose will be above any fluid level . add sealant around the top as done below and use a 1/2" fuel line clamp close as
possible to the end . now the 1/2 clamp is a tight fit but it will go on . after assembly use some sort of heat source like an old blow dryer to help set the clamps even more tight . you're done . if the pieces are all
clean it'll never leak and you'probably will never need another cable . as for looks or oem ? looks fine to me but maybe not to some but only you will know ---------------------------------------------later

I was also able to utilize a 56 powerflight cable on a 56 -58? torqueflight. The only difference is the end that locks into the trans. I put in a 5/8 copper bushing (I think?) into the trans with some sealant. Then the smaller bushing on the Powerflight cable fits right into the Torqueflight trans. The cable ends are the same and the shifter end is the same.

Shrink tubing works equally well and it's not so bulky.
