Subject: Question about Oil Pan - 1956 Dodge 315

I re-installed the piece shown on the inside of the oil pan after bumping the dents out. It looks like it is there to dampen vibrations caused by the cantilevered oil pickup tube. Does anyone know what its purpose is? Thanks!
