Member Posts: 7 | My Dad has had this '58 Dodge ragtop sittin in his shop for the last 20 years. He bought it as a stripped down rolling tub. The title we have for it says its a Custom Royal Lancer. Your all-white Custom Royal convertible, with the Ivory/Black interior scheme, and a white-top, was built in Detroit, on or around October 10, 1957. In no particular order, it has the Convenience Accessory group (foam rear seat; variable speed wipers; Jiffy Jet; and handbrake/ map/glove box & trunk lights; and vanity mirror) Also: Safety Group (Power Steering; Power brakes' padded dash' padded sun visors). Radio Group: heater/back-up lights; LT IO/S mirror; Day/Nite mirror; push-button radio. It was delivered by Truck to the dealership. It has tinted glass and the shaded windshield. And: Deluxe Appearance Group: 2-tone steering wheel; Spinners!; stone shields; clock Torqueflite transmission. Undercoating. It also has (many-) other options which will be confirmed on its IBM Build card and/or on its Broadcast Sheet. Have you looked up/behind its glove box to see if its Broadcast Sheet might still be masking taped there? NICELY optioned car! Edited by d500neil 2014-09-29 11:57 PM | ||

Member Posts: 7 | Thanks Neil! I really appreciate it. Haven't looked for the broadcast sheet but don't hold much hope of finding it. The top was non existent as it sat outside for many years before dad got a hold of it. | ||

Member Posts: 7 | He didn't strip it, he acquired it that way. We've got a four door sedan for parts. Too bad the trim won't work. We moved another car outta the shop the other day so I got some pics. I'll try to get 'em posted here later. | ||

Location: The Mile High City | Good stuff, John! Like Greg said, there were some WEIRD things done to that car, but it looks pretty solid still! That will be a great car and it appears that the top bows and some of the hard-to-find convertible stuff is still there. | ||

Posts: 19146 Location: bishop, ca | John, among the many parts that you will be needing, on/for your car's restoration will be a complete 57 Dodge sway bar system, including its welded-on mounting brackets and 'hangers'. The 1958 Dodges did not have a sway bar system on them. The location/installation of the sway bar brackets is easy to confirm, via the pre-existing slots that are already cut into the frames, for the the sway bars' (possible-) installation on them. Finding/buying a 1957 Dodge sway bar system should be relatively easy and cheap, because not many people are retrofitting 1957 Dodge sway bar systems onto their cars. Posts: 19146 Location: bishop, ca | One benefit of installing a 1958 (donor) frame onto a 1957 restoration is that all of the 1958 frames have beefier torsion bars on them than do the 1957 Custom Royal models. The 1957 Custom Royals have a standard-equipment (expensive) sway bar on them, which allows them to have/use softer T/bars, for a comfy ride, without sacrificing handling response. So, installing the standard 1958 Dodge T/bars (which were optionally available on the 1957 Dodges) along with a 1957 Dodge Custom Royal's sway bar will increase the handling of that car. Again, your '58 will already have the beefier bars in it, and, a 57 Custom Royal model should have a sway bar on it. Edited by d500neil 2014-11-14 1:38 AM | ||

Expert Posts: 1906 Location: Ontario, Canada | Hey, Neil, are you actually making HUMAN mistakes?! There is nothing 57 about any of this restoration!! There are usually NO slots in a 58 frame to precisely index earlier sway bar brackets!! Even if there were, one cannot adapt a sway bar onto 58 struts. 58 struts are round whereas 57 struts have a flattened area at their ends to accommodate the sway bar bracket end clamps. What else do you need to know to complete this picture??! Greg | ||
