Posts: 19146 Location: bishop, ca | Me like! ...except for the dashboard's shapes/contours, which conflict with the car's overall design. But for that much scratch, the owner had better spring for a motorized turntable for that 'thing', because all he'll ever be able to do with the car...is to look at it, so, at least, then, it'll be able to move around in circles, under its own power (sort of). The only way that this fine ride will appreciate in value is if its creator (not Ron Pratte..who merely financed it, and/or who bought it most recently...dunno which & dunno care) is someone universally recognized (name recognition; maybe even deceased) in the hobby-trade as being a 'Picasso' of Plymouths. The definition of a rich owner? Someone who buys this ride for $242K.....and who then proceeds to ENJOY its ownership by driving the crap out of this car while depreciating its physical condition. J. Leno gets away with this protocol because of his name-relationship to his cars...and the fact that he can afford to pay whatever-it-takes to maintain and restore his collection of cars. Owner/builder sold this at BJ a couple years ago, where it sold for much less than that. Some where around $175,000 I believe. I will have to research that to be sure. There are videos of that sale on youtube. Ron Pratt made money on this one.

Member Posts: 20 Location: St. Martins NB | The car sold first time for $170,000. Pratt did well. I like the over all design, and seeing that what he started with were barely part cars, and what he built out of it. It is nice to not see another '57 chev.

Expert Posts: 2308 Location: The Bat Cave, Fairborn, OH | The wheels suck for starters and the dashboard looks like a plastic POS but I suppose it would appeal to some. As for the dash instruments, that screams "1949 Nash" to me. Interesting concept car and I suppose if it kept one Mo Par Station Wagon out of the scrap yard then it was worthwhile, but I can't imagine it will ever be a daily driver again. Hence why it won a riddler award. Calling something a pos is uncalled for. Just because someone has different Tastes than you.

Member Posts: 20 Location: St. Martins NB | Surprisingly this car didn't win the riddler award, but was one of the great 8. JF Launier won his first Riddler this year with his Buick Riviera, all his builds are full driveable. He even thrashed his Riddler winning Buick in the Optima Ultimate Street Car Challenge Invitational. There is a video of him doing doughnuts in a parking lot you tube with this Chrysler/Desoto. Like it or not there is no denying the quality and craftsmanship in this car.

I'd rather see that workmanship applied to restoring a very rare Mopar wagon. My .02$ I subscribe to this view. I apologize for calling the dashboard "a plastic pos"; that was a little over the top, but it's still crap. Still not a fan of "chuck wagon wheels" on a car either. What are those rims - 20 -22 inches? Edited by 58 DESOTOS RULE 2015-01-16 12:33 PM

Expert 5K+ Posts: 5006 | He is actually a good guy to charity. he cashed in and suckered Pulte homes into buying his real estate business before the crash. He has been buying all kinds of cars and donates a lot to charity. He is no bill gates to charity but still donates a heck of a lot. He is also selling the 58 Christine Fury(the movie give away car). http://www.celebritynetworth.com/richest-businessmen/ceos/ron-pratt... But yes that car's dash is not "good"... It looks like it was ripped out of a 1985 carnival ride(they don't do this ever now). They were probably like "get the darn thing out the door, I don't care just stick a fiberglass dash in it"... Elite Veteran Posts: 1172 Location: Georgia | The dash is reminiscent of the 1960s Thunderbirds, although perhaps a bit exaggerated. Or perhaps a 1960s Corvette. I don't care for it, but the car is quite spectacular nonetheless. Very interesting. Pete

Posts: 19146 Location: bishop, ca | The dashboard area is obviously excellently fabricated, but its appearance is just FUGLY and doesn't compliment the overall, otherwise-unified design of the rest of the car. The dash design has this effect on me: (PICT3157.JPG) Attachments ---------------- PICT3157.JPG (104KB - 124 downloads)

Member Posts: 20 Location: St. Martins NB | I believe the dash was an exggeration of the '55 Desoto dash, the dash would have been better based on the '55/'56 Chrysler dash. I agree the dash and console take away from the car. Interior should have a bit of texture imho. Edited by 1955windsor 2015-01-16 8:00 PM

Location: Parts Unknown | The smooth and glazed-over look just doesn't work for me. It's all the brackets and mirrors and chromed bezels that make old cars cool. This thing just looks like you removed everything cool and replaced it with Tupperware shrouding and set it on some ghetto-stupid wheels. Good thing that was done to a mid-80s GM and not to a good car.
