I'm just starting the digital conversion of this radio like I did before, unfortunately this is a pristine working example not a junkyard doge like the one before, but is almost impossible to find any king of theses anymore.

If that's a Signal-seeking radio, you ought to leave it be, and "convert" another 5-button unit; they can't be hard to find.

Slow progress on the radio, tested and working fine but far from over, need to do the dial lighting and back up battery charger.

Thanks Wiz!, Well the radio came along very good, It even came out better than the first one. First picture is testing the balanced charger (center) combined with my record player, surprisingly is a complex task to charge a battery while using it, theses Lion-Po can be a time bomb if not charged properly.

Some of the connections on the back....Yes too many wires but all necessary for the backup battery, or all the setting of the radio will be away when the battery is disconnected, and it is really the only reason to all of them.

Final results with the lightened buttons also illuminated the old dial numbers.

Very cool...... when do you go into business doing this? ;-)

Did you put individual LED lights in the buttons? I always thought that the buttons should light up on these radios to match the heater and transmission push buttons. In the 1960 Dodge radio, they did make it so that the buttons light up. When I bought my ex-62 Chrysler many years ago I was disappointed that the radio buttons didn't light up, and at first I thought that it must have burnt out bulbs so I took the radio out to check it out - and found out that there was no light for the buttons.

I'm planning to offer this service if i have enough people interested on it. I know how to do it with the 60-61-62 Chrysler radios but pretty much any radio can be transformed if the digital display fit on the old dial window. I'm also looking in to other radios that could be used with and USB input/ IPod function.
If someone is interested on this digital conversion, let me know.

Wow, looks very good. Of course it's not completely stock but very functional and - I assume - much better receiver. Here in Europe the broadcast companies were talking to stop sending broadcast stations with FM (UKW in Germany/Switzerland) during 2018/2020. Actually at home I'm listeng DAB+, available in Great Britain, Germany and Switzerland.

My 1956 Chrysler New Yorker has a stock 844 receiver (AM). but it's not working. I guess first I have to replace all capacitors and the pointer/rotating capacitor adjusting wire. So I'm thinking of a conversion as well....

Thank you very much for your offer (NEW:).

Happy Motoring!

Dieter
