Expert Posts: 1477 Location: Pacific Northwest | http://www.mcecars.com/viewInventory.cfm?invID=626 Looks pretty good on film but would love a second opinion. If any of you are in the area and have a few minuets to do a drive by I would be ever grateful. Unfortunately someone thought it would be a good idea to use POR 15 to cover up the surface rust and encapsulate whatever is going on in the trunk. If all it needs is a heater core and some bushings here and there it would be a good surviver driver. I've already spoken to the dealer and by no means am I emotionally attached to the car. If once you see it in person and decide you NEED it I am ok with that.

Expert Posts: 2905 Location: little rock, AR | Something about that car is scaring me. That steering wheel should only be on a power steering car even though I have one on a non-power steering car. I added mine to my car. If your looking for a car, look at the '61 Plymouth 4dr HT in this section thats in PA on CL.

Expert 5K+ Posts: 8443 Location: Perth Australia | I am pretty sure that wheel is correct for a manual steer car, its the aero that was for the power steer in the delux wheel range I think it awesome, but you need to have a good look at the rockers, lower doors, lower rear quarters and the bottom of the C pillar As a driver though, I would try to barter the owner down a couple of grand as it all looks worn, but it is a 50+ year old car It would be cool to see a build sheet on this as its strangely optioned with all the bling, but none of the comforts, but being Canadian (says it has a Canadian 313), I guess its like cars produced here, no chance Says he will do international shipping, I wonder how much it would be to get it here with them working it out from his end?

Location: Under the X in Texas | This selling company has been in business for a considerable length of time - I'm guessing I first visited them about 20 years ago and 3-4 times more recently. I had family in the area. Assuming their business practices haven't changed due to owner changes or something, they have generally had nice cars at fair-to-market values. But I live 1250 miles away so can't "drop by" to help you.

Expert Posts: 1477 Location: Pacific Northwest | I asked for some pictures of the under carriage and I was sent about a dozen pictures. The car was under coated early in it's life which is good. Sometime within the recent past it was sprayed again which leads me to believe that something is trying to be hidden, which is bad. Oddly the pictures aren't pictures of anything specific, almost as if they are showing you the good parts and hiding the bad. I'm still in contact with them and I agree with ttotired about the price. I'm thinking if they cover the shipping out to Seattle, no tax or licensing fees we may have a deal.

Elite Veteran Posts: 836 Location: Layton, Utah | Neat looking car and it looks pretty original and well kept. But I think just from looking at the pictures there is rust everywhere. The seams on the doors are ready to explode. The RF one already has. You can see rust stains coming out of every seam. The trunk lid underside looks a bit funny, I think its been painted to cover up some activity. Then there is the rubber floor mats, I think you will mess your pants when you lift those up for an inspection. We all know what rubber floor mats do to the metal underneath. The water never evaporates and the metal rots away severely. It looks like a nice car, but I think you may be in for a big rust project. Floor and quarter panel rust is one thing, but when you have to start dealing with door seams, heater box/firewall seams, roof seams, fender/headlight area rust, you would be better off spending twice the money on a nicer car. I know I would spend twice the money any day of the week to avoid a car that you will always be wondering when the rust will be bubbling back through your paint job. Hope I didn't burst your bubble, just telling you what I see in the pictures and what you will encounter. DeSoto lives !!! Cory

Elite Veteran Posts: 836 Location: Layton, Utah | Why don't you take the plunge on that aqua 2 door Fury on e-bay for 15 K in Colorado. That looks like 10 times the car. Obviously it needs to be inspected with a fine tooth comb and magnet and crawled under and in and out before purchasing like anything you ever buy. And get before painting pictures. I'm telling ya, you will be money ahead to start out with something that doesn't need a lot of rust repair. Just my 2 cents. Cory

Expert Posts: 1477 Location: Pacific Northwest | I just finished putting this Dart back together after it spent over a decade going from garage to garage. Not too keen on putting another basket case back together. I have a rusty '62 Savoy for my next project so I am in the market for a daily driver. As long as the floors aren't like the Flintstonemoblie I'm good. Mechanical things I can fix. Both the Dart and the Savoy were rubber mat cars so I am familiar with that aspect. The floors were the first thing I asked about on the Belvedere and the dealer assured me that they were solid. Then I get the photos of the undercarriage and I can see a hole. I asked for more photos and I am still waiting. (left side01.jpg) Attachments ---------------- left side01.jpg (189KB - 67 downloads)

Expert Posts: 1477 Location: Pacific Northwest | '61 Savoy or Belvedere 2 door sedan. slant 6 manual. decent daily driver. Second would be either a 2 door sedan '57, '58 or '59 Coronet. I found a '58 in Georgia but it is out of my price range once I consider shipping. it's has to be under 10 grand, preferably less. I don't need a restoration project. I have one already. Thanks Dorsey.

Expert Posts: 2905 Location: little rock, AR | I know of a '61 sedan but its a v-8 auto(runs) and a '61 sedan /6 auto. Both have rust issues.
