Elite Veteran Posts: 943 | A rather silly question here, but how do I tell apart the different '57 Dodge models? Only Lancers have the knight emblem on the quarter, correct? Do the Coronets, Royals, and Custom Royals have different body numbers on the data plate? Looking at a car that is missing a lot of exterior trim and need to figure out how to ID model correctly. Thanks, Garrett

Elite Veteran Posts: 943 | No, unfortunately not, it's a car I'm going to check out tomorrow and I don't have much info on it. I think it's a Royal Lancer but I want to be sure.

Posts: 19146 Location: bishop, ca | A Royal model can be either a 2-door hardtop, a 4-door hardtop, or a 4-door sedan. There were fewer Royals built than the Coronet or the Custom Royal models, so, a 4-door hardtop Royal is a relatively (very-) rare find, because the 4-door hardtops got a lot of (family) abuse and wear and tear during their service lifetimes, and, their body structures tended to leak and to rattle and rust-out. I happen to like the appearance of the hardtop Royal's interior scheme and colors. The term "Lancer" describes any of the (2-dr or 4-dr) hardtop models in the Coronet, Royal or Custom Royal lines. Elite Veteran Posts: 943 | Thank you for the info. The car is a 2dr hardtop. Would a Coronet and a Royal have a different body style number on the data plate (if both were 2dr hardtops)? This would be my first '57 Dodge, I'm used to Imperials so a bit "out of the loop" on these.

Elite Veteran Posts: 943 | Thank you!! It's missing a lot so that will help. Hopefully it's as good as it sounds as I've always wanted one.

(That would be a major find!)

Elite Veteran Posts: 943 | Well the car was so rusty there was nothing were the trunk floor should be. And quarters were rusted out up to where the trunk floor should attach... Dirt cheap, but I don't need that kind of a project now. And I'd need to be some kind of awesome welder too... Even in that state they are really striking cars. So now I want one

Expert Posts: 2308 Location: The Bat Cave, Fairborn, OH | Speaking of projects, look at what somebody started with when he just had to have a Dodge convertible? He found one in a New Hampshire junkyard, but it was pretty tough. He details some of what he did to bring it back from the grave in a blog he created called Finland Gazette, but I have no idea if the car has been completed as it appears not to have been updated since January 2010. ronbo97 is the person's internet handle and it is just possibe he may have posted here from time to time. If he is still active on this board, I wish he would tell us how far he's gotten on that ol' rusty 59 Dodge convertible. http://home.comcast.net/~ronbo97/index.html
