These two trannys are reported to be 727s from 63 and 64 small block Mopars can anyone decode them? Transmission serial #'s are: F2464423-1332519 and F2408004-0779713

Hola Gary

For "a start" does either one have a Rectangle shaped Oil Pan. This shows it is The Model 904.

If either has a poor shaped design of The State of Texas - it is a Model 727.

As you face The Bell Housing and The Starter Motor's "Mounting" location is at about the 3 O'clock position --- it is for a Six Cylinder.

The 5 O'clock position is for a V8.

For V8's there are two diameters. The small one will fit any MoPar 273 - 340 - 360 and made after 1962 318 ( all the way into The 90's ).

The larger diameter will fit any MoPar 361 - 383 - 400 - 413 - 426 or 440.

To add to the Tail-shaft question ---- are they a looong taper or stubby/ short taper ?

Here's how they decode, the letter is a plant code, the first 7 digits is the part number, the next 4 digits is the build date based on a 10,000 day calendar and the last 3 or 4 digits is the sequence number for that day.

F2464423-1332519

2464423= A 727A from a 1964 C-body with a 318

1332= Build date March 21, 1965

519= Sequence number, the 519th built that day

F2408004-0779713

2408004= A 727A from a 1963 C-body with a 318

0779= Build date September 15, 1963

713= Sequence number, the 713th built that day.

In both examples, the build date is later than the normal model year, these were built at a later date as a parts room replacement.

Hola Yo'll

There were no 318's ever in a Chrysler --- until 1980 --- so we know it was not from The Chrysler Division.

I Lower My Head because The De Soto Division was closed by The Chrysler Corporation by this time in 1961. As The Chrysler Division they never used an 318.

It was not until 1966 The Plymouth Division had a C-Body --- so Plymouth's is not an answer.

This leaves only a Dodge Polara ( of any colour or shape ).

I realize that the C-body designation doesn't actually start until '65 but it's common practice to refer to all full-sized cars after '61 as C-bodies.
