Location: Southern California | Just found out I have a torqueflite A488 in my 60 windsor, does anyone know of a source for parts to rebuild these guys? or do I need to ditch it and put in a later 727? I have a 383 motor.

Location: Alaska | A lot of guys on this site have rebuilt or had theirs rebuilt, so parts are available. IIRC there is a shop in the Portland Ore. area that specializes in parts for older autos. You shouldn't have much trouble finding a shop in Calif. These trans. are dependable when properly rebuilt and to convert to a newer 727 is a big job, you would have to change the crankshaft in your engine to do it right. |

I think a 1962 Aluminum Transmission will fit, but may need a different trans mount (I will leave the verification of this to others). |

Location: Peoples Republic of Oregon | 1962 does not exchange. Remember that the 1962 model year was the roll-out for numerous 'new' stuff including changes to blocks and cranks and the 'new' flexplate for the v-8.
With that said, I would not be at all surprised that a very early '62 existed with '61 parts. |

What I was incorrectly thinking about was the fact that the singular 62 was virtually the same as the older transmissions (driveline brake and pushbutton configuration/linkage), but would work on newer engines. I am geting too old to remember all this information. |
