Here's the power steering pump on my 58 Belvedere. There's presently a 1964 318 poly in the car. The pump is not assisting my turns at idle...works just fine when cruising. As soon as I have to slow down and turn a corner, turn around in the driveway or park the car in a parking spot I have manual steering. Really convenient huh? I have scoured the internet and have not seen another power steering pump like this one. I don't know if it's a Saginaw, Federal, TRW or what! I've even looked into GM and Ford pumps thinking someone in the past used what they had sitting on their spare parts shelf after they installed this engine in the car. I need to get a rebuilt pump. Something on the shelf would be preferred...or I suppose I could send this one away to get it professionally rebuilt. If I could identify it, I could buy a kit and rebuild this one myself. I'd even welcome using a more modern Mopar type P.S. pump if I could get one to fit onto this bracket. Any help would be really appreciated.

Thank you...that's a big help. Did you have to get your pump rebuilt? If so...did you do it yourself or did you send it out? Any help/advice would be very helpful. I can't find anything on the internet.

No, I just took it off to flush it out while the steering gear box was being rebuilt. Either one of these places should be able to help you out though.

FYI The pump in the picture is on my '57 Saratoga with a 354 poly.

Thanks again...I have called both these place already. Steer and Gear just told me to send mine in...It would be $275. Larescorp guy told me to go through this procedure first as he thought my internal check valve was hung up. "jack car up in front to get tires off floor, pull center cap wire to coil, crank motor with wheel turned 1" to right...repeat with wheel 1" to left...repeat with 2" to left...2" to right and so on. He said to check in power steering pump reservoir for bubbles and/or foam between crank set. If found, walk away from procedure for a good long while until bubbles/foam dissipate. I thought that was really nice of the guy there at Larescorp to tell me this to try to help me before I send it in, however I performed this procedure today and it changed nothing. Saw no bubbles/foam at all either. Maybe I should flush mine out like you did...Now, I'm thinking there may be garbage/dirt in there??

That is a brake booster. I've been told by a reliable source that it's a Bendix Brake Booster...and that it was probably dealer installed for the original buyer/owner that wanted power brakes. It works very well.

Just wish I could get the Power Steering Pump to work "very well".

Quick Recap: There's plenty of power steering assist at just above idle, but NONE at idle. Larescorp told me it's probably a stuck check valve inside the pump...and to go through the procedure that I listed earlier in this thread...but I tried and that didn't work.

Does anyone have any experience with a stuck check valve in a power steering unit? Anyone ever successful in getting it freed up?

The weird brake booster is probably worth come coin. Anyway, in 64 and a half, MoPar switched to the LA 318. I think power steering applications were unchanged.
