I have the original sales receipt when the car was originally sold, just for kicks, I went to see if my engine S/N matched the one on the sales slip....it doesn't. Upon closer inspection of the engine I found this brass tag bolted to the right side valve cover. Do you think this may have been some kind of a factory rebuild or something that was done in a shop somewhere...your thoughts?

That was common for the larger rebuilders to put a tag on their rebuilt engines showing bearing size and also bore size. Your engine was replaced at some time but I doubt it was a factory reman. Sears used to be a big supplier of rebuilt engines but many I have seen were painted a special color, kind of a teal green.
