I had a electrical fire in my 60 New Yorker so fried my wiring under hood and in. I have a 60 Desoto parts car. Will the Desoto harness work in the Chrysler?

will it "just work" probably not, can it be made to work, you bet. However, given the way that these cars were wired from the factory, if it were my car, I would just take the opurtunity to make my own wiring harness. It isn't that difficult and can be done better. I'm doing exactly this on my 1960 Phoenix, which as far as I can tell from the diagrams and the way the phoenix is actually wired (the car doesn't match the diagrams really) the 1960 imperial wiring harness is closer to what is actually in the phoenix. It's up to you though. Keeping it origonal (and having another fire) or make your own that's a step above, has fuses, and doesn't catch fire.

It will not fit, the Chrysler have the electroluminicens circuit and the fusebox.....

I would get a harness (John, Big-M?) or make one myself

Look at my thread (This should be the right page) and you will see that I had to do this repair as well

http://www.forwardlook.net/forums/forums/thread-view.asp?tid=38117&...

It isnt that hard, the hardest thing is getting it out and getting it back in right (right is important )

Spend a day taking it out, a weekend fixing it, and a weekend putting it back

You will need to remove all the front wiring and the dash wiring, you should be able to leave (and re use) the rear harness

After its out, try to untape the harness and every so often, especially at branches, add a wrap or two of tape to hold the harness in shape before you try and remove the burnt one

You will find other wires that have been melted into as you go along, you can replace or repair these as needed (a spot burn will just need reinsulating, but if its more, either replace that section or replace the wire)

Once you get into it, its not that bad

Hardest part is getting started and not letting it overwhelm you

Or, I can sell you an exact reproduction of your original harness!

I'm with polybun, after my 61 caught fire I gutted out all the wiring and made a better harness with fuses, and for your own sake don't wire your amp meter back in, it's a fire waiting to happen. Wirings not terribly difficult but is time consuming and I wouldn't want to do it a third time

It does have an ammeter. The only time an ammeter becomes a "fire hazard" is when someone tries to pump more than 35-40 amps through it!!

Your right about that Greg, I just have s**tty luck and the wire broke while I was jarring the car around and shorted out on my dash, so I don't take the chance anymore. To me it's one less wire that's hot under my dash. I'm just bias
