The push buttons are stuck in the off position but the heater is pumping hot air. Also if I move the vertical heat lever to the off position it moves by itself back to the heat position. Any ideas?

Might be the vacuum or the switch itself broke.

Does the heater valve work? If you move the cable and the valve doesn't work it can slide back

The Cable is most probably bent and makes a spring force.......

it can also rust and do the same thing.

Now the buttons, there are lots of things that go wrong there. The good news is, they can be pried apart and worked on, the bad news is you end up having to super glue it back together and it still may not work.

Thanks for the input. I never thought to check the Bowden cable. I worked on the pushbutton assy on one yearsbago and it was nearly impossible to remove without unbolting the dash.
