Extreme Veteran Posts: 314 Location: Fairfield County, CT | Fortunate to have picked up this jewel this past weekend outside Jacksonville. A rust free CA car that has been stored and protected properly; and the engine turns. Most of what you see missing was seperately boxed. Keep looking guys, they are out there. Extreme Veteran Posts: 314 Location: Fairfield County, CT | Steve, Yes she's a keeper. A Forward Look convertible was high on my bucket list. I have great plans for her. Dorsey, Your car reminds me of my Regal Lancer when I got it. I used to tell people unfamiliar with Forward Look restoration "Don't look at what's gone. Look at what's left". My Belvedere was originally white with white top and red/black interior. I like that combination but am considering changing it. At least a black top; white tops are a PITA to keep clean and looking good. These cars look good in red but I think red's been over done. Maybe all black exterior and keep the interior colors. Thoughts? BTW I have the sport tone trim. Here's a couple more pix.

Expert 5K+ Posts: 5009 | sure sometimes you get lucky. You got lucky. Try that on a 59 dodge... you could hunt for a lifetime.

Location: Parts Unknown | At least a 58 Plymouth is good looking. Finding a 59 Dodge convertible, for me, would be like winning the lottery (when I saw the ragtop and header) and then being told I have cancer and 2 weeks to live (when the disappointment of seeing it was actually a 59 Dodge hit). The good news would be that I could dump it for stupid money and buy something nice.

If the 57-58 DeSoto had never happened, it would be a natural progression from the 56 and just, sort of, "whatever". The 59 Dodge, on the other hand, is just plain ugly in every way.

Expert Posts: 2244 Location: Yorba Linda, Ca | You poor Freaking Blind ******* And I'm being nice. There are some forward look cars I can't stand the looks of, and "to me" some aren't even forward look cars. butt, I keep my mouth shut and my typing finger quiet and try to talk positive about the ones I do like. For example, (breaking my rule, momentairily), I hate Dog Dishes, and also not a fan of "stripper cars", but normally I wont post about either, and rather I praise the cars with options, and nice wheel covers. Borje's "Ugly car" just gave him a very nice retirement when He sold it last year. I drive my cars a lot, and whether it's the 59 Dodge Vert, or the 58 Chrysler vert, folks always tell me what beautiful cars they are. Nuff said, cept hope You get well soon, Doc!!! Gary

Elite Veteran Posts: 1116 Location: CA | Man guys.. this man was nice enough to share his awesome barn find '58 Belvedere and some of you want to debate the subjective cosmetic attractiveness of 2 other makes and model cars? Maybe that would best be done in another section that isn't a members post in the "members rides" section... Just sayin'

Location: Parts Unknown | 58 Plymouth was one of the most perfect designs of the Forward Look. It was someone else who brought up the 59 Dodge. Gary, ... you take this sh!t WAY too seriously. THEY ARE ALL UGLY ! I was told this so many times it became a source of pride. I suppose I could have got all butt- hurt about it, but that seems silly. Those people have junked their "pride and joy" car 3-4 times since those days. To them, it is just a passing fashion statement. To me, it is a car with a soul. A concept lost on them. Deep breaths .... this too shall pass.

Extreme Veteran Posts: 314 Location: Fairfield County, CT | I gave the man what he was asking for it. At just shy of $11K there was no reason to haggle. I put the money in his hand as fast as I could and brought it home.

Location: The Mile High City | Well done, Joe. As far as colors go: my old Canyon Gold coupe with Sportone inserts was really neat. Copper Glow is a very unusual color and might look nice too. Sunflower Yellow is pretty. But heck, if you like Toreador Red, go for it! It's your car. Lots of great choices for '58. You could always wander off the factory paint chart too, but it doesn't seem like you would lean that way... Would you two-tone it, go with inserts, or go monotone? I think there was a monotone black convertible that was a real knock out. It will look good no matter what paint you choose. Maybe you should decide whether you want to complement the Regal or provide a contrast? Edited by Lancer Mike 2015-08-31 6:56 PM

Extreme Veteran Posts: 314 Location: Fairfield County, CT | Thanks for the feed back guys. It was originally white over white with red/black interior. I like that but am considering all available factory colors. I agree Mike, black on these cars is a knockout. I'm leaning away from red, not because it's not pretty, but because I think it's overdone. This is an ordinary Belvedere option wise; ps, torqueflight, radio, heater, 318-2bbl. Plans are for "restoration light". I didn't need another Regal Lancer project; way to much metal work. It does need all the finishes; paint, top, interior, but I don't think I'll take it off the frame. Hell, the frame still has black paint on it. It blows my mind how solid this car is. I'll refresh it mechanically and try to resuscitate the drive train. With 88K on the clock I think there's life left in it. That'll help me get it on the road quicker. The biggest thing I'm missing is a passenger side door panel. Even a toast one (like my driver's side) has the trim I need to have it remade. If anyone has one they're willing to part with drop me message.

Location: The Mile High City | Nothing wrong with white, that's for sure! In my opinion, the Sportone inserts are a "must have" with white. Joe, you could go silver and convert it into the world's only Silver Special convertible! Joe, do you know anything about the Regal for sale in MA craigslist right now?

Extreme Veteran Posts: 314 Location: Fairfield County, CT | Mike, Yes, the owner is a friend of mine. I looked at this car a couple of weeks ago, good restoration candidate. Has less rust than mine had. I believe it was a southern car.
