Veteran Posts: 158 Location: Ottawa, ON | While I was cleaning my dodge's ashtray yesterday I have noticed a round hole in the left side of the ashtray that is only visible when it is open. The hole looks like as if a pigtail socket would fit in there. However the ones used for illuminating the gauges do not fit. I wonder if the ashtray once was illuminated?

Veteran Posts: 158 Location: Ottawa, ON | maybe i should ask my question differently: does any 61 dodge/de soto owner has an illuminated ashtray? or does somebody know if this was even possible in 61? some forward look "wizard" maybe? ;-)

Extreme Veteran Posts: 466 Location: Vancouver, Washington | I could not find a part number in my 61 parts manual, however, when putting my car together I came across a 61 Polara parts car that had the option. I grabbed it and installed in on my car. It looks like the attached pic. (ashtray light.jpg) Attachments ---------------- ashtray light.jpg (116KB - 108 downloads)

Veteran Posts: 158 Location: Ottawa, ON | Thanks for your replies. Wow, that part looks exactly like i imagined it would have to look. Now comes the interesting part as where i'm going to find one? Unfortunately we just ran out of highly optioned Polara parts cars in germany ;-) edit: after some extensive google search i found a part number: 2291751 [supercedes P/n 1887726 & 2258297] seems like this part was in nearly every mopar with this option from 1961 to 1968. Shouldn't be that hard to find. Edited by Polara61_383 2015-11-10 4:17 AM

Veteran Posts: 158 Location: Ottawa, ON | Yes, I already have the ones on ebay on my watchlist, but i don't really need a NOS "mint" "numbers matching" part...I mean this thing sits in my ash tray which I actually use. I've sent a pm to John from BigM, maybe he has one that is not in perfect shape. And yes, according to the part number this thing was used up til 68.
