I just got back from a teardrop trailer camping meet in S. California. There were only 2 forwardlooks there, a '59 Dodge panel & my '56 Savoy; but a lot of vintage car guys and a lot more time & opportunity to get to know people than the typical car show. Women don't typically get into the vintage car scene, but they sure get into customizing vintage trailers so it is a really good mix for both sexes. My wife even wore her '50's clothes until it got too hot to continue. Let's see all your camping pics!

If that's your family, it looks like you need a bigger trailer? Looks like fun.

I used to camp a lot and enjoy. I have thought about finding an early mini-camping trailer and matching the paint but everytime I camp, I have to be near water to go fishing so I have to take my boat. I suppose I could hook one to the back of my boat and go with a tandem set up? The big boys do it.

That's why I finally puchased that rear window sreeen and am looking into putting in a rear interior P.W. switch as I sometimes sleep in the back of my Suburban. After all, it is a 4' x 8' bed.

Enjoy you car!

Karl.

Sweet Kenskill & wagon Nick! Do you still have them? Wrightwood isn't too far from me. Do you go with the tearjerkers group? I'm not sure which group I am with now, but it may be the remnants from them. I believe they are based out of the Temecula area. I have never been able to attend the Pismo Beach event because it is always fully booked by the time I can try. The next one we are going to is in Buelton in Sept.

Do you know who owns the 300E? Beach camping with a convertible 300E would be fun

Yes, Karl, those are my wife & kids. The kids sleep in tents that you can see in the background. We all slept in tents until I bought this trailer 3 yrs ago. These little trailers are a lot of fun and don't require a lot of effort to move around or require modifying your tow rig too much. You don't even need to learn to back up a trailer. Just unhitch and push it where you want it. Definitely sleep in the back of your wagon. Wagons are perfect for that. I finally convinced my wife to sleep with me in the back of our 'Cuda one trip because we didn't want to drag a trailer around with us that day. She just couldn't come to grips with sleeping under that big glass! But I finally convinced her to do it with me. It was a lot of fun.

This would make a nice accessory to a forwardlook car. Very unique and appealing design.

Is that a Checker wagon in the above photo? I never knew that Checker made anything but a 4 door sedan.

Super neat pics - love all the cars, trailers, etc. I bet the Barracuda was something like this one I used to have, huh?

That's awesome! Are those rear view mirrors easily removable? How do they mount on there?

The checker wagon would be more appropriate for camping, but the convertible would look better doing it.

Yep, same year 'Cuda, only mine is red and not as nice looking.

To Powerflite:
Those mirrors are absolutely horrible. They just clamp on between the lip of the hood and front fender with the "strap" that clips under the lip of the fender. The reason they are horrible is that they vibrate like crazy and I was always afraid they would get torn off or broken and hit the windshield, side of the car, and slam into the trailer. Pretty good for backing up the trailer though! I used them one time for a short distance and then they became history. I liked the idea they weren't permanently mounted but.........

I've never seen ones that tall before. I have lower larger ones for my '64 Dodge wagon but I've not driven around with them on. Lots of people in the vintage camping circles I'm in use them on their old cars.

These mirrors were home made and screw on with 5 small screws, they work well and if your travelling in traffic and on divided highways you want to be able to see behind you.

You could also use the mirrors I show in the picture below, you just put them on and tighten them, they also work very well, stay on secure and work on our `57, no vibration.
|You can buy them on ebay still.

I like what you did with the sidetrim on your Savoy, looks swell!
