Expert 5K+ Posts: 6500 Location: Newark, Texas (Fort Worth) | http://phoenix.craigslist.org/cph/ctd/5552309072.html I have a very rare 1959 DeSoto Adventurer 2drht for sale, only 590 made in 1959, the last year that the "real" Adventurers were made. We bought this car in pieces and we had the body media blasted to bare metal, etching primer was sprayed on the bare body and 2 coats or regular primer. We assembled the DeSoto just so we could be sure how complete car was is. You can see in my pictures the few pieces missing, the trunk lid stainless trim pieces, one short stainless piece on the roof, one door panel and a few other pieces. We did go through the power windows and they work great and we started up the 350 HP 383 engine and it runs very nice with no blow by that we could see. When we bought the DeSoto it has a single 4 bbl carburetor but we bought a correct dual 4 bbl set up with the correct carburetors and intake from an 1959 Adventurer that was parted out 25 years ago. We don't have the air cleaners but can get a set, just let us know if that is of interest. The DeSoto does not have brakes so it's not a driver but it would not take much to turn it into a running and driving car again. The fuel tank should be cleaned out also. We can do work on the car at our restoration shop in down town Phoenix, we have specialized in 1957-62 Dodge, DeSoto and Chrysler restorations for the last 30 years. We export cars all over the world and we can help arranging transport to most places in the US or in the world.

Dad's was white. I think those were the only two factory available exterior colors - black or white. For some reason I don't believe gold was an available color on '59 Adventurers. Anyway, I think it was the president of the clubs car. It sounded really cool. I think it the cam was not stock the way it was idling. Anyway, from that time on I have admired the 59 Adventurer. The swivel seats really added to the futuristic era of the day.

Expert 5K+ Posts: 6500 Location: Newark, Texas (Fort Worth) | For the first time, the car appeared in the fall brochure. "Pure gold... in ride, pride and pleasure," said the spread. Gold anodized wheel covers and aluminum side sweeps were again reserved for the Adventurer. They contrasted with available black or white-pearl exterior colors. To simulate grained leather, the coupe's roof was covered in "Leather-tone," a textured vinyl-base paint in matching body color. No other DeSoto got the gold and white vinyl upholstery with "Nylon Casino Corde" inserts. Fireflite and Firedome could, however, be ordered with new swivel front semi-buckets. They were standard on Adventurer and touted in a DeSoto press release as "the greatest seating development in automobile history." http://auto.howstuffworks.com/1956-1960-desoto-adventurer5.htm https://news.google.com/newspapers?nid=1907&dat=19581118&id=um0rAAAA... - It is easy to distinguish a 1959 Adventurer from the lesser DeSotos. ... Color selection was easy - the only choices were white and black. http://articles.orlandosentinel.com/1990-08-23/topic/9008210164_1_a... Marc.

Expert 5K+ Posts: 5006 | I didn't like the back bumpers, a little to exaggerated.

Extreme Veteran Posts: 537 Location: Upstate NY | I agree, the rear bumper is a bit heavy and there is something funky about the headlights but I am partial to 57 - 59 chrysler corp cars of all makes. They were so different from the cars before and after. The adventurer model in 59 was my favorite 59 but I agree with Doc on preference to the 57-58 fireflite being king of that era.

Location: Parts Unknown | The crisp front edges of the 57-58 DeSoto-Chrysler design were inexplicably replaced with what looks like sheetmetal hamburger buns hanging over the headlights. I will say that the top bar of the sweep going straight to intersect the kicked up lower bar on the Adventurer was a terrific inprovement over the exaggerated "check mark" on the other models. I am no fan of forward-leaning fins, so this was a negative, but was exponentially exacerbated by that dumpy rear bumper that took the light and airy design of the previous years and made it heavy and ponderous. Guages replaced with idiot lights ... I just can't get with 59's. But that little door that accesses the hood latch is beyond cool !
