I tried to find this information a few years ago and failed.

How far down the cylinder should the piston be?

It is my understnading that all 383 B blocks that year were the same CR, 10:1 +/-, so aswers should be fairly consistant- I think.

Any help will be appreciated.

Thanks,

Ray

mopar performance says no more than .050-.060 minimum top of piston to deck buttt , one will find that most blocks differ from one to the other . so maybe the best way is to find the block center line and
measure to deck height . then adjust piston height from there with the end being as stated ------------------------------------------------------later

60 dart and 57chizler,

Thanks guys. I was worried because several local people hand mentioned that the piston should be flush with the deck. In addition, I was getting answers all over the spectrum.

I am measuring approximately .044, so I guess I'm good.

Thanks,

Ray

The only 383's that had the piston near flush the deck were the '68 and '69 HP
