I am planning to buy a FL car now and would appreciate tips on what to look out for. Are there any special places where rust is common on these cars? I´m searching for a car i good condition (not show car).

lower quarter panels (in front of wheel and behind),
trunk pan seam at the back,
floor pans & power seat wells,
above and around the headlights,
roof to quarter panel seam,
front and rear windshield trough under trim.

Location: North Australia		On my 1960 Imperial I found rust on both front floor pans. This is a design issue (can we get it fixed next year please?!). There is a steel pressed floor stiffening gusset which protrudes into the front wheel arches and which catches dirt, and then water or vice versa when driving. I am lucky and this is the only rust through on my own car. Mine was just starting (after 50 birthdays outside SanFran) and stopped in its tracks (I hope!).

Location: York County, PA		Powerflite hit the nail on the head. Every car will be different depending on where it spent most of it's live.
One of my 60's was from Minn. and was flooded so the whole undercarridge was like swiss cheese.
The other one come from N.C and come out of a barn that left water in on the rear quarter panel and that all that rusted.
Some people have been real lucky and find them in good shape. Good luck finding one, their worth it.

Location: Valley Forge, Pa.		I don't know if they all were like this but my Suburban still had the rubber mats when I bought it and there was a 1" of heavy sound deadening under it. That stuff just held the moisture and the rubber mats don't breath so I had to do the drivers side floor pan. Fortunately I found someone to make me one the included the area for the pedal. Looks like the repros I've seen have that area cut out?

I remember rust outs over the headlights on many of these cars in the early 60's growing up in Connecticut.

Location: Upstate NY		Buy one from the west!!!! Most east coast cars especially if they were near the coast or in snow country are bad in the floor, rockers, rear quarters and trunk floor. A lot of time and money.
