Expert 5K+ Posts: 9700 Location: So. Cal | The front half is really solid. No rust at all. Unfortunately, the back half is not nearly as good. Looks like it was parked under a drain of some kind that dripped on the trunk lid because the trunk pan is completely rusted out including high up by the fuel inlet. Also, the trunk lid is completely shot with rust. This of course, also rusted out the lower quarter panels in the rear. But considering that the interior floors are solid, I decided to bite the bullet on it. The paint code says XXX so it is an original all-white car. I am not going to keep it that way. I will paint the lower part a green or maybe light blue to match the interior colors. The 325 motor is taken apart to make room for a 350 Chevy motor because rebuilding that one was more expensive. Of course, I am going to put it back together. It has a 3 speed torqueflite and power steering, with manual brakes. The emblem on the side says Coronet, so I assume it is the base model.

Expert 5K+ Posts: 9700 Location: So. Cal | Thanks, I will post some better photos tomorrow. The VIN says LD2L. The last L means that it was made in Los Angeles. But does the 2 mean that it is a Royal? I don't know Dodges very well. Also, how would a tri-tone paint scheme go? I can understand it on a '57, but the '58 doesn't have that mid body line so how did they do it?

Expert Posts: 2996 Location: Sept. 1958 | 2 could mean Coronet 8 cyl or Royal. Tri tone could be fins and deck lid/roof/rest of body each in different colors. Tri-tones weren't available in USA even in 57 but they were in Canada, not sure for 58. Some 58s did have the longer 57 side trim. The door panels in your car are Coronet ones.

Thanks for the info. Odd that they would make some with longer trim....was that a Canada thing only? And don't worry Mike. I am not planning to do a tri-color scheme. I am just curious. I put pictures here for anyone interested: http://forwardlook.net/forums/forums/thread-view.asp?tid=63016 Edited by Powerflite 2016-09-10 3:11 PM

Expert Posts: 2996 Location: Sept. 1958 | Nice Nathan. I believe the longer trim could have been ordered mid year and later, when they offered the saddle paint style. US built, unsure if Canada offered it. Here is an original car with it: http://forwardlook.net/forums/forums/thread-view.asp?tid=10304 For those that may not have liked the thicker Spring Special trim.

Elite Veteran Posts: 769 Location: Oley, PA | Nice car. It is definitely worth restoring. While I like the all-white, I think it would look nice with a 2-tone scheme as well. Good choice on rebuilding the 325. It's been a few years, but I rebuilt one myself. The good news is that parts are available. You'll have to search for them, but they can be found. The 325 is a solid motor and can be bored at least .060 over without issue if you need to.

Expert 5K+ Posts: 9700 Location: So. Cal | Thanks guys. I'm not exactly rebuilding it. It supposedly ran a year ago or so. So I am going to clean it up and put it back together to see how well it runs. The clean up part is nearly done now. Here is a before and after pic.
