Interesting film. Did you notice that the access to the fuel tank was on the driver's rear quarter and not behind the license plate? Also, Junior Johnson's car has "320 HP" on the hood, but '59 348 with 1X4V carburetion was supposed to be 300 and with 3X2V 315; in contrast, the '60 1X4V 348 was 320 and with 3X2V was advertised at 335. I suppose Bill France could let his favorite manufacturers do as they wished.
Those '59 Chevy's may have been tough on the NASCAR circuits, but I never had too much trouble with stock jobs on the street or strip. However, while the '60 335 HP Impalas couldn't outjump that first Big-Tailed Beast off the line, with their 4-speeds and 4.56 rear ends they could out-wind me and generally would be two or three (perhaps even 4-5) car lengths ahead of me at the finish. I must say, though, that BTB with 4.10 gears and Hedman Hedders could even surprise a '62 409/409 when the light changed, especially as those early 409s were hard on their valve trains after some hard use.

Joe, yes i noticed the filler opening. interesting the 320hp statement considering the fact they had to use the single stock 4v carb. i didn't notice that. btw, the petty plymouths were the fastest that day. clocked at 152 mph!
outjumping... yes i was thinking alot about that statement lately. i changed my 383 to a ram manifold i designed that takes even more advantage of the ram effect of the old sonos. it accelerating off the line like attached to a rubber band, even with a long rear axle, unbelievable torque but at higher speeds its a complete failure. 130 max, thats it.
