Member Posts: 5 Location: utah | Just bought this imperial 2 weeks ago. Runs great and drives good. Needs work but overall it is a solid unmolested car. Looks like it was painted 20 our so years ago(paint looks like imron or some other single stage). Drove it home about 50 miles including one mountain pass and other than the steering wheel coming off and the left front brake grabbing things went well. Steering wheel has been repaired (fixed mangled threads and sourced a nut) now and I am working on the brakes. Member Posts: 5 Location: utah | Lucky I was on a backroad when the steering wheel came off. Coasted slow until I got the wheel to slip back on. I removed the spring under the wheel and drove it home making sure not to pull back on the wheel. I have driven a lot of old cars but this was a first for me. It was an uneventful trip other than that. I am making a plan to upgrade the car to make it reliable and fun to drive. I am planning on upgrading the brakes, adding efi, electronic ignition, and replacing the generator with an alternator. As far as the body and interior goes I will probably restore the interior and paint the body the same color it is now. It looks like it was a dark green car originally but I really like the color on it now. Looking forward to being involved in the forward look community! Thanks

Elite Veteran Posts: 943 | Car looks great just as it sits. The steering wheel coming off is a strange one, now there is something I would never, ever expect to happen. Must have been strange to be holding the steering wheel and then realize it's not attached to the car anymore AAJ brakes and 1 or 2 other companies make disc brake conversion kits for these cars. They are nice kits. Doing one on a 57 Dodge wagon now.

Member Posts: 5 Location: utah | Thanks! The steering wheel was a little exciting. I just tried the SSBC disk brake kit but it would not work- my wheels are 5 on 5.5 lug spacing and the kit was 5 on 4.5 so I returned it. I am going to contact AAJ and see if they can help. What spacing does your dodge use?

If you haven't already you should register your car on this site. https://1959imperial.shutterfly.com/# Thanks, I will do that. Do you happen to know where the build or trim code tag is located on these cars? I have looked in the usual places but have not found one.
