Expert 5K+ Posts: 5006 | Saw this at the Detroit autorama. I guess its a 57 due to the hood... 56 due to bumper/Fins? They did a great job of Forward Looking it at least I mean that roof is almost litterally off a FWL car(chopped it a bit)

Expert 5K+ Posts: 5006 | that's got to be a 300k build. I think it looks better than a regular 56//57 chevy

Location: Parts Unknown | I would happily own and drive a 150 series 57 Chevy. The 210 and Bel Air series are too common and boring for my taste. I fail to grasp what motivates a builder to do something like this. What I like about OLD CARS is the OLD, not the car. Lose the OLD and it is just another Toyota with a custom body. Whoop-de-doo !

He did it to win a riddler award, you have to customize something. He saw a 57 chevy and said okay lets slope it big time and make a custom. It seriously looks like he took the roof off a forward look and chopped it sloped it a bit more. A ton of work but whatever. I will just stick with my 57 dodge which is very similar looking without the hacking and welding.

Board Moderator & Exner Expert 10K+ Posts: 13054 Location: Southern Sweden - Sturkö island | The car is clearly done by some sheetmetal experts, the work is very nicely don but it don't appeal to me. The concept is; 55 Chevy front fenders 57 Chevy headlight style 57 Chevy hood 55 Chevy style grille 55 Chevy style front bumper 57 Chevy fin style Would have been nice to mix in som 56 Chevy parts as well. The car looks better from the rear than from the front view.

Make a good ditch plug, eh Doc! It looks pretty low, so might need to get some speed up and jump it in. Not my style either. Steve.

Location: Parts Unknown | It makes me think of Teddy Johnson in the 5th grade. He purposely jumped off his roof and broke his arm so he could wear a cast and get all the attention. I guess that sort of thing appeals to some people.

Could have just stuck some fins on a '90s Impala and ended up with the same thing. (jpg137.jpg) Attachments ---------------- jpg137.jpg (208KB - 134 downloads)

Expert 5K+ Posts: 5006 | hah yeah this guy wanted to win the Riddler and he spent enough money to do that. Someone should just park a 57-58 dodge/Desoto/Plymouth/chy next to it What I think is kind of sad is I don't think there was one 57-58 dodge/Plymouth/Chrysler/Desoto there? I'm going to have to start going to these.

Expert 5K+ Posts: 9681 Location: So. Cal | I think that Ford would have looked better with Dodge fins on it. The Chrysler fins seem out of proportion. Edited by Powerflite 2018-03-05 3:50 PM

Location: Parts Unknown | Look at what is parked next to it to get an understanding of where that guy's head is. I would bet he listens to the same 14 "oldies" and has a nice collection of reproduction Coke signs and straw holders at his fake soda fountain.

Extreme Veteran Posts: 406 Location: Hilltown, PA | Given the degree of customization involved, and the skills of the guys doing that kind of work, I wouldn't be the least bit surprised to learn that the majority of the car was hand fabricated from scratch. While the Tri-Five Chevy is clearly the inspiration, I'd bet there's very little in the way of Chevrolet based parts on that car. Don't know if anyone here has seen this car before, but it is an awesome example of just how good your game as a customizer needs to be these days. I especially like the ghost flames that are created by the different methods of finishing the aluminum . . . http://americancarsamericangirls.com/show/18578/dodge/a-hand-formed... The side effect of all this hand fabrication is no one can accuse you of "ruining" an original car (or valuable parts) if you make it all yourself . . . Extreme Veteran Posts: 406 Location: Hilltown, PA | Nope. The entire car was hand fabricated from aluminum sheet and structural tubing. Also, the 57 Chevy that started this thread took the Riddler Award - so whether you like the design or not the build must have been darn near perfect. Gregg

Gregg define "perfect". i personaly don't mind a not so perfect door gap but the car has to have style and class. that mixture of new and old is just tasteless. its a perfectly build, high quality atrocity.

Expert 5K+ Posts: 6502 Location: Newark, Texas (Fort Worth) | Article: https://www.hemmings.com/blog/2018/03/06/imagine-a-re-envisioned-195... Imagine, the 2018 Ridler Award-winning 1957 Chevy. Photos courtesy of Championship Auto Shows. Tri-five Chevies may be a staple at cars shows and cruise-ins, but there hasn’t been one in the running for the Ridler Award since 1965. That changed last weekend, when Imagine, a 1957 Chevrolet One-Fifty owned by Greg and Judy Hrehovcsik and Johnny Martin, founder and owner of Johnny’s Auto Trim & Rod Shop and the car’s builder, beat out an impressively diverse array of Great 8 finalist to take this year’s Ridler Award at the 2018 Detroit Autorama....

Expert 5K+ Posts: 5006 | typically the Riddler is a 30's Ford roadster event, so yeah IMAGINE A CHEVY winning, hah... I mean look at the 80's and 90's winners.. Imagine a Mopar winning!!! hah they wont stand for that. 1970 was the only time a Mopar won. https://autorama.com/awards/ridler-award/2000s/ they mixed it up a bit and gave Chip foose some wins recently and started throwing GM a bone... https://autorama.com/awards/ridler-award/2010s/ 90's https://autorama.com/awards/ridler-award/1990s/ 80's https://autorama.com/awards/ridler-award/1980s/
