Expert Posts: 1348 Location: Valley Forge, Pa. | I looked back several years for threads and have a few ?s. 1. How are your ACs doing after 3 or more years and what makes? 2. I have a 1960 Plymouth 318/powerglide with 4 blade fan with no shroud. Sometimes idling on a real hot day, it runs hot but not hot enough to boil over. How much hotter will it run. Condenser goes in front of the rad.? Is there an aftermarket fan shroud or what did you use? 3. I already have a 100 amp alt. What is required and what HP drain is there on the motor? Fuel consumption, ect.? 4. If I don't go to AC and can't find a shroud. What's a good bolt on fan that actually helps. Should I add a clutch? Any readily available part #s for any suggestions? I took the heavy factory 7 blade steel fan off my 67 GTO and put on a 7 blade plastic/aluminum flex fan that "will make your engine run cooler", on my GTO and didn't see a degree of change. 5. Is there such a thing as a complete interior AC unit like a home window unit that require nothing more than 12v power and possibly a drain or something? In August, I'm towing my boat 7 hrs up to the Canadian border again. Last year I was roasted on a 90 degree day in a 2 hr accident delay on the turnpike. I lucked out and found a shaded pull of. Dropped the tailgate and laid in the back. I had a small cooler with 2 cans of Pepsi, a hoagie/sub/torpedo/hero/po'boy or what ever name you use and a bottle with a large cap. Everyone else sat in their cars, windows up and looked comfortable. Basically, I would like to know with enough gas, IF I were to add AC would my car as described be able to handle sitting on a hot day with the AC on? Thanks for any imput.

Expert Posts: 1348 Location: Valley Forge, Pa. | P.S. - I use my Suburban almost every day it is sunny[average 9000 a year] and that includes hot days so I am not asking as an occasional driver that might not go out if it is too hot but for something reliable that I can use and not be detrimental to the drive train while possibly doing a long drive towing 1100 lbs up mountains.. Maybe some input from some one down south that has to regularly deal with high heat and humidity. Can AC be added and be reliable as a new vehicle?

Expert 5K+ Posts: 8443 Location: Perth Australia | Yep. Put it on my dodge and had no problems The fascia of the unit I used was oversized because I ran demister hoses as well My unit was a heater/ a/c as well and with the factory heater not there, it gives more room

Expert Posts: 3777 Location: NorCal | I added a hang-on A/C to my '57 wagon with the original 4-blade fan and it ran too hot for my taste. Went with an electric fan and the temp gauge stays right in the middle where it was before the A/C. I Also have a 100-amp alternator. Regular Posts: 81 | Hi, I also am interested in this topic. My car has a 55 Plymouth dash ( RHD), and I would like to fit an under dash Air Con, but it looks like I will have an issue with the sliding Vent handle? Anyone fitted a unit to this dash? Thanks, Steve

Expert Posts: 3777 Location: NorCal | I installed one in my '56 Plaza, removed the handle and installed a linear actuator to operate the vent door. Regular Posts: 81 | I did not know what you were referring to. Have now googled the linear actuator, and understand now what you have used, and I guess I can figure it out from here. If it works for you, it should solve my problem when I get to that stage of the restoration. Thanks, Steve
