Did these survive better than the 57 and later cars? Thicker metal in the 56s? Better designs to eliminate water ingress at seams? We know the 57s were notorious for bad construction and leaks, at least for the first ones out the door. I would really like to see the VIN and cowl data tag for this 2dr Belvie. (Note: it does have some rust so they were not perfect by any means) Edited by 56D500boy 2020-08-14 12:48 PM

That makes sense as to why there aren’t many posted here, but I don’t seem to see them as often on Craigslist and other sites posted by the person selling them.I supposed that part of it may be because there aren’t as many left out here anymore, and they tend to disappear quickly so they ads aren’t up too long. I was wondering, were the 1956 cars really made of thicker gauge steel or that much better designed to be sealed against leaks? I’ve never owned a 56 to compare build quality to the 57 and later cars. But more than that, the '56 and earlier models were painted on the insides of them, everywhere that could be accessed (I'm not sure if they were dipped or not). In '57, they cheaped out and stopped painting the interior panels. That made a big difference in how quickly they rusted, especially in a humid environment.

Glad another forward look is being saved. You must have quite a collection. Do you still have a 56 Fury too? First year of the fury and the sharpest looking 56 plymouth in my opinion. I really like the side trim.

Expert 5K+ Posts: 9674 Location: So. Cal | Thanks, yeah, I just bought the '56 Fury as well....and it's yellow! Just finished fixing the trunk latch and aligning / tweaking the trunk lid to get it to close well. Also replaced the left taillight & reverse light. I'll replace the right side too when I can get to it. I have almost all the stainless trim for one complete side now. Still looking for the rest. Working on replacing the hood springs & fixing the hood hinge now. (56Fury Left Rear.jpg) Attachments ---------------- 56Fury Left Rear.jpg (167KB - 158 downloads)

Extreme Veteran Posts: 403 Location: California | Nice find! 1956 Furys are pretty rare. I think they only made 4,485. Does it have its original 303 motor and transmission? Are you planning on going back to eggshell white?

Expert 5K+ Posts: 9674 Location: So. Cal | Drivetrain is missing, unfortunately, but surprisingly, it has power steering and power brakes. Pretty rare for a '56 Plymouth. Because of the power steering, a Chrysler hemi wouldn't fit well in there so I am considering either building a poly stroker for it or maybe a 325 Dodge hemi motor. I am thinking of painting it black, but I haven't decided yet. I might go back to white. My family is voting to keep it yellow! Here is my thread on it. http://forwardlook.net/forums/forums/thread-view.asp?tid=74451
