Location: Tulare Ca | Hey all! got a question for yall. So In my recent engine rebuild (58 318 cast iron poly) I was replacing the pistons (but not the rods) and after installing them all, went to spin the crank and realized that the bottom of the pistons are hitting the counter balance. So I pulled the pistons to compare with the old and realized that the boss for the wrist pin is thicker and taller than the original. Would it be possible to grind/machine the .050 or so clearance needed to clear the counterbalance? Or would this compromise the wrist pin boss?

Be sure to give yourself some good clearance too. The aluminum expands a lot with heat and you don't want them colliding when it is hot.
