Expert 5K+ Posts: 9684 Location: So. Cal | I agree Dave. What makes these cars so unique and fun is the different two tone patterns & unique fabrics. Seeing a monotone one with the trim still in place is a let down. Also, if this were a real monotone car from the factory, it wouldn't have the lower trim line installed. They just had the upper one, though I'm not sure they did that through the whole year.

Expert Posts: 4043 Location: Connecticut | Yep. These really need two-toning. I'll bet that's the way this one started out. The car has been repainted. I think 13K is a bit steep for a #4 car with a torn up seat and numerous things that don't work. Also, it's a low option car. I think 7K (or less) may be more in line. Ron

Veteran Posts: 145 | I had a '58 Firesweep two door hardtop that was a single color tan with the full sweep molding package. It looked like it should have said Band-aid on the hood instead of Desoto. It definitely needed a second color.

I wondered the same thing! It seems as though there are some images of monotone cars without the lower stainless trim, but I'm not sure. Edited by Lancer Mike 2021-04-02 10:23 PM

Regular Posts: 78 | A story on the same car from December, 2020 when the car was on eBay. No price nor ebay link but a general story that discusses the rarity of its color and the lower versus upper level stainless trim. https://www.curbsideclassic.com/blog/cc-for-sale/ebay-classic-1958-d...

Expert 5K+ Posts: 9684 Location: So. Cal | Someone in the comments section states that the lower trim was a separate option for the monotone cars. Can anyone verify this? If so, that would explain a lot of variations.

Expert 5K+ Posts: 9684 Location: So. Cal | Thanks Robert! So it was an extra option on monotone and standard 2 tone Firedomes & Firesweeps, as well as 4dr sedan Fireflites. Edited by Powerflite 2021-04-03 4:11 PM
