I have my '59 DeSoto dash apart and it's a great time to lubricate the speedometer and cable. I had a speedometer whine when it was cold last year, so I added a few drops of sewing machine oil to the wick a couple times and that did help some, but so far it's not completely quiet. I'd like to make sure I lubricate everything with the proper lubricants so it's nice and quiet when it all goes back together. Based on a couple other threads, it appears I should do the following: 1. Wick lubricated with sewing machine or 3-in-1 oil. Is this correct? 2. Speedometer cable cleaned and lubricated with regular bearing grease. Is this correct? 3. Are there any specific points on the speedometer itself, aside from the wick, that can be lubricated? I have the whole thing apart right now. Referenced threads: http://www.forwardlook.net/forums/forums/thread-view.asp?tid=67042 http://www.forwardlook.net/forums/forums/thread-view.asp?tid=72426 |
