I was looking for 1955 Dodge Paint Code info when I stumbled upon this article in the on-line version of Hot Rod magazine. The author, John Gilbert, goes on and on about a fantasy that the 1955 Dodge Coronet Lancer in question was the little old lady from Pasadena's first hemi, before the 1964 Super Stock Dodge. On and On. It was cute. That it until he shows a photo of the "RED RAM" engine. (Which is obviously a poly and it is obvious that Mr. Gilbert doesn't have a clue and thinks "Red Ram" = hemi without understanding what that really means)

[hits head on brick wall]

That misinformation seems to have been done on purpose. It doesn't take a genius to figure out it isn't a hemi motor, and certainly the staff at HotRod knows what a hemi motor looks like. They seem to be playing on the ignorance of the general public.

Also, I assume that what they are trying to say is that this car was owned by the actress who played the little old lady - Kathryn Minner. But they somehow managed to make it through the entire article without ever mentioning her name. That writer should be fired.

Meanwhile in Europe...

"A legend in street racing and dragstrip history, there was nobody meaner than the little old lady from Pasadena in her 1964 Super Stock Dodge, but that wasn't Granny's first Dodge with a Hemi engine under its hood; first she had a 1955 Dodge Coronet running a Red Ram Hemi.

The little old lady from Pasadena's 1955 Dodge was discovered recently in a Kansas barn with extremely low milage assumed to be acquired 1/4 mile at a time. Mopar automatic transmission technology wasn't quite up to snuff in 1955, so Granny went for a three-speed stick on the column.

Typically, drag racers don't option a drag car with a radio or heater, but Granny's '55 Dodge came factory equipped with radio and heater plus a cigarette lighter to light her Cuban cigars. A bottle of Mothers polish was found in Granny's trunk, but unfortunately for the Coronet before she could detail it the 1964-year model Dodges were out and the '55 Hemi Coronet was barn stored.

Three-speed stick-shift transmission

Some journalst was looking to fill a spot in the magazine and wrote a puff piece about a 1955 Dodge with a Red Ram Poly. They aren't serious about that being a hemi; they should know the diffwerence.
