Sorry. I just re-discovered this old thread from February 2016 and need to make a comment (or two). I was not a Forum member until Oct. 2016 so a) I wasn't there when the post was first made and b) I didn't have the 56 D500 knowledge that I do now, even in Oct. 2016.

Here is the problem:

The first Detroit 56 Dodges started with VIN 34, 972, 001 (probably late Sept 55). (Jon Robinson, in his 1950's Chryslers book, has suggested that the 56 Dodges were introduced to the public on Oct. 7, 1955).

This car has 34973646 which makes it a very early car (either late Sept./early Oct. 1955).

The 1956 Dodge D500s were NOT announced until Dec. 22, 1955.

One of the first D500s release to the public, with engine D500-1003, had VIN 35052811 and was built on Dec. 16., 1955.

This Coronet convertible purports to be a D500 with engine D500-3451. According to the data base that I have accumulated (see below) that engine would have been in a D500 car that was built, somewhere close to April 1, 1956 plus or minus a week or so with a 3510nnnn VIN.

BOTTOMLINE: This car was not a real 56 Dodge D500. It might be a real D500 engine but that chassis never left the factory with that engine in it. It has been swapped in at some date.

Hope nobody got too ripped off.
