According to Nicksgarage http://www.nicksgarage.com/aircleaner.htm this air cleaner was only used on 59-62 361's. Does anyone know if it was used in any other applications? Any chance it was used on 383 or 413's?

Is there anyway of verifying what applications it was used on?
Was it for all years 59-62 383 and 361?
I've seen repops of the 395 decal, are any others available?

I can say it was not a 4 bbl Carb'd Air Cleaner Housing item that was used for Standard issue 4 bbl Chrysler's or any Imperial Division 413.

What engine and year do you have that the valve covers are black? Just curious?

Okay, so not used on 413's. It's a pretty low profile design and with the open element is definitely a high performance minded design.

That picture above is from the Nicksgarage link. Not my engine.

The air cleaner I have shows signs of originally being painted black. There was a factory sticker laying over the black paint, the rest has been sprayed with a rusty red primer color. The guy I got it from said it came off a 60 Desoto Adventurer 383. All the pictures I've seen of this air cleaner assembly its always gold. I'm ultimately trying to verify that this is the correct air cleaner for the 1960 Desoto 383 and black is the correct color. Also, since it has the flat circular embossed area, what decal identifying the engine would have been used?

If the vehicle is a 1960 De Soto then do not ask to many Plymouth or Dodge people --- go to a 1960 De Soto Person.

I'm just asking Forward Look minded people, but good idea to post it on the Desoto owners site too.

This assembly is correct for the following 1959-61 361/395 lb. ft torque models:

Plymouth

Sport Fury, Police Enforcer, Belvedere

Desoto

Adventurer, D300

Note: This assembly was specific to the high performance 361 B engines from 59-61. It will fit a variety of big block (361/383/413/426 wedge/440) single 4 barrel engines from 59-66, but is technically correct for the 59-61 models. It is different from the 413/426 max wedge air cleaners in design and fitment and will not fit properly.

FITMENT

The assembly will fit factory 4 barrel carburetors (Carter AFB) with a 4 1/8" diameter flange only. If you have modified your carburetor or intake manifold, please inquire first prior to bidding to ensure fitment is correct. Return requests for non-fitment will not be honored.

My website does not say it fits 1962s. I believe it is correct for 1961 Chrysler Enforcers with the 383 as well as the Plymouth Golden Commando 395 and Dodge police cars. I don't believe it is correct for any DeSoto. Also don't know if Plymouth police cars with that engine would still use the gold one or not. There just aren't enough survivor cars out there to make a determination.

We've gone over this before. The police cars had black air cleaners. If these were ever used on a 383, it wouldn't have used the same sticker on it. What sticker would it have used? None?

Also available on the Polara D500(383 4BBL) and Dart D500 (361 4BBL)

But we're talking Desotos here.

I'm lost but 1961 Desotos apparently only came with 2 bbl 361 "TurboFlash" engines, i.e. no 4 bbls, no "395" air cleaners.

In 1961.
