I was turning the car to head out with my wife after just getting back from the body shop where it had been getting freshened up and really didn't want to spend any more on it this year. I heard a sharp crack and then a lot of play i.e. nearly half a turn of the wheel. It will steer like this and I have looked and can see no obvious faults except the steering box movement (which has no leaks).
Living outside the U.S I want to try and avoid core returns due to postage costs and ideally try to rebuild myself. I am presuming that a gear has broken internally and if this is so can new parts be purchased ?
I will be going on my annual trip to Sweden in July so could get parts there if they are available.
Many thanks for any help that can be provided

Hard parts are difficult to come by, but some are available on Ebay. You'll have to take it apart and see exactly what needs to be replaced. Firm Feel may have some replacement parts, so you can try there too.

If the steering gear BOX is moving, then in sounds like the multiple bolts holding it to the frame have loosened up (not uncommon) to the point of the box having totally come loose from the frame rail (very uncommon). Get a competent mechanic to inspect and diagnose the problem. DO NOT drive the car until fixed!
