Rebuild it rather than trust your luck to another used transmission.

In the short term, I suggest that you down load the 1960 Dodge Service Manual and read through Chapter 21 on the torqueflite transmissions.

As per the chart in that Chapter, there are many things that could be causing your problem. Some of them simple (low on fluid, band needing adjustment, etc). Some of them requiring tear down (front pump failure, front clutch pack not working properly (e.g. worn clutch discs, etc))

If it was a clutch disc issue, they are available, e.g.:

"Genuine MoPar new-old-stock front clutch frictions for 1956-61 Chrysler Corp. cars and trucks with A-466 (cast iron) TorqueFlite 3-speed automatic transmission (NOT for Valiant or Lancer). Available in (3) different thicknesses: Standard (.060"-.063") and .073"-.076" or .087"-.090" oversized as required to build up the clutch pack to the correct clearance + + + + Specify thickness desired"

It might be but I am (only) guessing that the silvery muck is actually clutch friction material and/or from the steel clutch discs, not planetary gear wear residue.

One of the four front clutch friction discs (example)

You might need to investigate further with the help of Fatsco Transmission Parts:

Wheels in the air (no load) and you get all three gears suggests to me that the issue is the clutch pack(s). But that is only based on what I have gleaned from other sources, not actual experience. My 57 A-466 in my 56 Dodge is ticking along very nicely, thank you very much.

(When I had it rebuilt it got lots of new parts, including the clutch discs)

Thanks !!! Yes ... evidently something wore out will all that silver sludge on the bottom of oil pan . could be clutch packs like you said.
