Expert Posts: 1223   Location: Ramona, CA | I'm trying to clarify the interchangeability of 1960-64 Chrysler, Dodge and Plymouth full-size wagon tailgates. It's very confusing even though it looks like there are only two body shapes. I have a 1960 Chrysler wagon and recently bought a 1964 Chrysler tailgate. Supposedly they don't interchange. I made a cardboard template of the 1964 and it matches my 1964, at least on the ends. Parts like the hinges interchange for all four years, except there appears to be an early version of the hinges in 1960. The two basic tailgate shapes are the smooth ones as seen on all 1960 wagons and then the ones with two bumps that started with the 1961 Plymouth wagons. Smooth ones were used on all 1960 wagons, as well as the 1961 Dodge and Chrysler and then again on the 1963-64 Chryslers. The ones with bumps were used on the 1962-64 Dodge 880s and on the 1962 Chryslers. The Hollander interchange book shows different part numbers than the parts books but I'm showing both below. I don't have a 1961 Dodge parts book, so I'm missing those numbers. 1960 cars have some unique parts, such as the rear glass having trim around it The lock bezel and mechanism is unique on the 1960 power tailgates. And of course there are some slight trim differences. Has anyone successfully fitted a tailgate that doesn't meet the interchange below? For instance, a 1964 tailgate on a 1960?
