Location: Parts Unknown | 57 and 58 are very similar, but there are some notable differences. 57 had no grille .... just the big chrome bars. Look at the photo and you will see the "bullet" pods that held the parking lights in the grille. 57's parking lights were up high with the headlights. 59 is so different you can tell with your eyes closed!

Elite Veteran Posts: 709 Location: Poznan, Poland, Europe | You mean something like that ? I don't know much about Dodges, first I didn't liked them, then I wasn't able to find some good info on them. As I look at my pictures, 1958 is nicer than '57, I just don't like '57's difference in the size of headlights & parking lights...looks messy. Oh - and it appears to me, that Dodge in only one, solid paint scheme is rare ? They always go 2 tone. And as for 1959 - it's different, but keeps the characteristic styling - still has eyebrows (for me nicer than those straight ones) and "tacked on" fins. I don't care for the goofy park lights on Dodge or Plymouth for 57. Plymouth mismatched the upper and lower grille orientation, and Dodge just got those huge, overbearing chrome bars. I like the grille for 58. Just my taste, but I think Mopar really got it right in 58 for the Plymouth, Dodge, and Desoto lines. I prefer the 57 Chrysler grille / bumper balance to 58 though. Maybe kids don't do this in Poland, but every time I see a 59 Dodge - look at that grille and those parking lamp pods - I see some brat kid sticking his fingers in his cheeks and pulling them outward to make an ugly face! I thought that when they were new, I still see it now! Cool cars indeed, but I don't have the money to do a bunch of them .... I'll be selective and go with the one I really love! Someone else can have "my" 59 Dodge! .... PS: I once found a ratty 59 Custom Royal ragtop in a garage. I turned a friend on to it who just thought 59 was the ultimate. He got his favorite car, and I pressed on to find a 58 DeSoto.

Elite Veteran Posts: 709 Location: Poznan, Poland, Europe | I probably would also have to choose, if I would be able to buy some Forward Looker...and I have worst situation, becouse I'm also into some of GM's. As for 1958, I also find it more elegant, expect for a few changes, like those smaller rear lamps on Chryslers or Dodge's fenders on Chrysler Windsor...and, after all, 1958 was a year of recession...I know that didn't affected both styling and performance...after all it was the middle of styling cycle and nothing bad could have happened...but this think is somehow uncomfortable.
