I had heard that he had a few 57-59 Chrysler letter cars, but I see he's also got some other interesting hardware as well. The 1960 Dodge Polara is very tasty. Maybe he's going to compete against Jay Leno ---

Sorry folks, I can't get the link to work...

And as I'm very keen on many songs by The Carpenters I'd especially like to!

VERY impressive! Kind of nice to see a collector who actually purchased some of the cars new when they were kids. Especially being MoPars!

He certainly did it right-- He scarfed up the rare FLs in the late seventies when they could be had for a few grand or less, d@mn!

I hope some of these cars see the light of day, at least they arent packed in the building so accessibilty looks like they may. So many look to be over-restored, which to me, should lose points at judging time. I like original, or restored to original, they should not mirror the detail of a hand-built Rolls. Afterall, these WERE mass produced, flaws and all!

I really like the color combo of that 300-E. But I'd go with the 300-F for the styling even though I am not a black car kind of guy.

Great collection, thanks for posting!

A great collection...

Did you like the comment on the Pontiac GTO?

Up until model year 1967 if one wanted an automatic, the GTO came only with the hoary two speed; fully nine years behind Chrysler and not the proper automatic tranny for a car like the GTO

His father seems to have guided him quite a bit, I suspect he might have been very pro-Chrysler.

Thanks for the link!

The Carpenter family has been collecting Mopars long before Jay Leno was a factor in the entertainment business. I first heard about the "Carpenter Collection" around 1979-80.

Carpenter has a very impressive collection.
Most people can't compete with these cars.
Hard to compete at car shows when you are against cars that are restored and with new paint. Your car is sitting their not restored and with original paint-I just pull the judging form and enjoy the show and meet new friends. I mostly go to car cruise's where people enjoy cars new and old.

I want the 60 Polara and the 68 Charger R/T.

You guys can fight it out over the rest of the collection, which is VERY impressive.

I've wondered off and on for several years if Richard is among us under an alias?

True, but he could drop by once in a while. Maybe not posting, maybe not even as a member, but maybe to get a feel for what we "little people" in the hobby are up to.

I have a friend who is very high up in one particular political party. He is extremely busy as both a lobbyist and a party advocate. But he finds time to surf the web and exchange chat on some lists.

At least we have some celebrity vehicles among us, even if their current owners are regular folks like us!

K.

P.S.- It could be debated if all of us are normal enough to be "regular folks!" I sure ain't!!!!

"Kenny" How to 'we' know, 'you' are not Carpenter,,,,,,is disguise!? mmmmmm?
How do you know, that 'I' might be Carpenter? You NEVER met me, have you? So,,,,,,,?
Oh s**t! The thought just crossed my mind, like a old re-run, nightmare. Hobby could be Carpenter!!! Psyco and Sasquach?
How many of you, actually met, and talked, with Fearless leader? He sorta' resembles Carpenter.
Y'know how those 'Hollywood' types are, with disguises, and makeup!
Well, 'I' wish 'I' had some of his $$!
Anyway.
At one time, he had EVERY 300 Letter car model. Meaning, HT and Convt, of each year in his collection.
He and Goers got together to re-pop the 300 interior.
Another '50's singer who was into MoPars. Bobby Vinton, from Cannsburg, PA I saw a B&W picture of him and his wife/GF, sitting in either a new, '57 Fury/Belvy, or a '58 Fury/Belvy HT.

Now theres a rich guy who knows how to enjoy his money. Of course I prefer that 59 white Sport Fury. IMHO white does the greatest justice to the Sport Fury. I had a white one like that back in the '60s. I gotta get off my rear this winter and paint my copper colored one white. I think Richard also had a blue Sport Fury (convert?) a few years ago that he sold. If anybody is interested in buying a couple buildings like that, there are 3 setting in a group in Iola, Wis that belong to Chet Krause, ex owner of Krause Publications (Old Cars Weekly). He recently auctioned off his vast car collection and last I knew, the buildings were for sale. If interested, contact me first, then maybe I can collect a finders fee and then can afford to paint my car

i had a video tape about his cars i recorded from german tv in the late 80s or early 90s, showing him driving that white 59 fury coupe and a black 59 adventurer coupe and lots of 300s in various stages of restoration. they also showed his very first car, he still owns, a 60s plymouth b body, he or his family bought new, if i remember correctly. yes he is a mopar guy! unfortunatly a jealous girlfriend destroyed that tape

You figured me out.  I am a retired rock star, living in a 4 room duplex with a one car garage in Pittsburgh.

I actually spoke to him about 10 years ago as I recall when I first got my car, and was calling around looking for parts.  In those days, you would call another owner, and ask for the numbers of anyone else they knew with your type of car, and kept going on down the line until you found what you needed.

Collectible Automobile back in the 80s (I have issue at home) did an article
on Richard's 300s. Then he still had all of them, except the 1962 which he had sold.
The Hemmings Dodges (marque books series) paperback has an article on his cocoa brown 60 Polara 2 door HT (also pictured in the Mopar Muscle book pub. a while ago) The 2 things that made me drool: going to a piano lesson and getting out and seeing your dad come to pick you up with a 1960 Dodge, and being given a 300F for next to nothing when a buddy comes back from the service!
Does he ever let the public view his cars? Beth
