Location: At "The Rock" in upper East Tennessee | I am in the very early stages of the restoration on my '58 Plymouth and have found many things already to be very interesting about the FWL cars.
I found out today that NAPA is the best place to get brake parts for my '58. I am getting all 4 front cylinders, both back cyl., master cyl., rear shoes ( already have a new set for the front) and the rear rubber line for $245.14 plust tax. Not a bad deal i don't think.
I also found a company on ebay that is selling pre-made cut to fit kits that replace all of the metal brake lines. I got that for 52.90 shipping and all.
I just thought if anyone else out there is doing some of the same work that info may be helpful.
On the subject of my trans, it seemed to work ok but upon removal of the pan I found a lot of gray metallic sludge and the car only has 56,000 miles.
Do you guys think I should find a rebuild kit and do it my self? I have built a few F0rd C-4's that work good.
Find a rebuild kit and let a trans guy do it? My worry about that is, what if he has never seen one these tranny's
I have a manual for the car with very good directions about building the trans. It is an oridginal from the late 50's early 60's put out by Mopar.
I also plan on putting in a basic rebuild kit in the poly 318 just for peace of mind.
Any other pointers on my restoration would be great! |

Location: fulshear texas | i think those transmissions are not a whole lot different than the aluminum 727 that most transmission people usally work on. either way if you have someone else do it try to find an older experianced transmission man instead of someone wet behind the ears from tech school. i would like the e-bay number for the brake lines you found. sound like a good deal.

Location: Snohomish, WA. | All it takes to do a castiron TF tranny is patience, attention to detail, a feeler gauge, and a dial indicator. Cleanliness is all important too, but not like it is on say a 904 with all the filter screens in the governor and such..
The biggest challenge is getting the main shaft with all those seal rings back into place without ruining or opening any of them.
OK, a good manual helps too.
