Location: Kansas City, Kansas | I am not saying this is not a nice car, just saying that the restoration took a lot liberties with "originality". That's fine, except the auction seems to really go overboard about saying how original the car is.
1. Golden Lion sticker on a DeSoto?
2. "original red"? The U.S. built DeSotos did not come in bright red. Canadian built DeSotos did have a similar bright red, but U.S. built cars did not. Not even close.
3. Dash color is not original. Not even close.
4. Dash pad is very custom.
5. Seat pattern is similar to correct, but the stitching is way off.
6. Nice attempt on the door panels, but a bit off.
7. I don't think the steel piece atop the door panel could be had in chrome. All were painted dash color.

My brother brought home a 60 Adventurer in these colors. Last I heard, the car was completely restored and lives about 50 miles
south of me today.
DeSoto had a brighter solid red like this and a "cinnamon" metallic red. I have only seen the chromed interior garnishes on
Adventurers. Fireflites were painted. Or maybe it was an option ? But I had several that were chromed. |

Location: Victoria, BC, on Vancouver Island, Canada | On the chrome vs. painted garnish mouldings, I think it depended on what plant they were built at, and what bin of parts the guys on the assembly line were using! ( as in - one bin for New Yorker mouldings and another bin for Saratoga / Windsor mouldings). For Chryslers I would think all the New Yorkers would have used the chrome sets, and maybe Windsor and Saratoga should have all been painted, but I have seen several 1960 Saratogas with all chrome door-top garnish mouldings, but mine are painted from factory. Mine also has stainless steel garnish mouldings above the windows ( inside) and FL member Wizard's car, all his interior garnish mouldings were painted from factory, both the door top and above the side windows. Both cars are hardtops. He has since replaced his with chrome and stainless ones. Maybe when the bin of painted mouldings was empty they "borrowed" from the "New Yorker" bin of chromed ones.... ;-). Were the DeSotos built on the same line as Chrysler? I would think so as many of the body parts are interchangeable.

Location: Victoria, BC, on Vancouver Island, Canada | I'm always amazed at the way people install the air cleaners on these cars...... obviously the snorkel should face to the front to capture as much air as possible, and there are actually tabs on the air cleaner to fit over the casting on the back of the carb....!

What embossing do you mean? I don't recall ever seeing any embossing on a 60 DeSoto seat. Pic below is an original interior, I don't see any embossing on the vinyl.

A nice car for sure - not a fan of red, but nice none the less . . .
I don't mind the little 'mistakes' done with the resto - kinda mind tryin to pass them off as original -
