*NEVER* buy a car from someone saying something like, "i'll sell it to you for $10k... after you restore it, she'll be worth $65k"...
*NEVER* buy a car from someone saying something like, "one of these just sold at the Barrett-Jackson auto auction for so-and-so"...

The sad thing is that the car will just sit out in the elements while the guy holds out for his unreasonable price.

I'd like to ask this guy what he thinks the person who sold the '59 Custom Royal Lancer for $65k had into the restoration and how much he thinks it would take to bring his car to that state!

Some people don't seem to have any perspective.

Hey, guys - lest we forget: this baby only has 82,000 miles on it! That is about as bad as touting the mileage on Ms. Belvedere or the Norseman: only driven 4 miles before being totally destroyed! Low mileage should only apply to running cars - for heaven's sake!

"some people don't seem to have any perspective" -

agreed, and sometimes, those that do, have a "misguided" perspective...

i was at a car show over the summer where a "kid" (couldn't have been over 19 or 20) was "selling" his '86 Iroc-Z, all *original* (no "rebuild") engine/transmission, 140,000 miles on it (thereabouts, i remember it being "just under" 150k), the car was repainted, i think he said five years ago, the "plastic" ground-effects were replaced, he had high-dollar chrome rims (that were showing "age", but yeah, they're worth a "premium" in asking price)...

but the real "kicker" was that he had a "price list" on the dashboard showing how much he paid for the ground effects, the chrome rims, the amplifer under the passenger seat, the in-dash cd-player, the trunk-mounted equalizer, the pre-built box subwoofer, the underbody neon light kit, and his Lambo vertical door kit...

i used to follow the car stereo market rather closely, nothing he had in that car was newer than FOUR YEARS OLD, some was six years old, easily...
his dash-displayed "price list" wasn't telling anybody that, just dollar amounts for *what he has "in" the car*...
(that and i "guarantee" this teen was "beating the Hades out of" that amplifier and subwoofer!)...

a *WELL-MAINTAINED* '86 Iroc-Z "might" fetch a range of $4k to $6k...
his high-mileage and his new few-years-old paint offset each other, the added value for one is subtracted by the decreased value of the other...

a Lambo door kit, what is that, $800 or so?

this "kid" was asking $23,000 !!!

Yikes!,talk about dreaming!
I've seen Camaros of similar vintage with much lower mileage that truly were "all original" sell for $4k!

You're also right that Mustangs,Camaros,Firebirds, etc are usually beat to hell by the time these guys are done with them.

Hope that guy likes owning it,because at $23k I gaurantee he'll be driving it for a long time to come...or until he blows the motor!

sad thing is, that's not the first time i've seen a Lambo door kit slapped onto an under $5k car and the "seller" turning around and asking fifteen to twenty...
i seriously hafta wonder if this "works", ask 15 to 20, sell for 10 to 15, that's still two to three times what the car is actually "worth"...

hmmm, time to pick up a Ford Pinto, slap some Lambo's on 'er, and double/triple my cost-basis when i unload 'er onto some dumb "kid" that knows nothing more than "ooh, cool, those doors are awesome!"...

Yeah,I don't get it either.
To me Lamborghini doors look tacky on these cars, just like those Rolls Royce Vw beetle kits that were popular in the 70's.

I also don't understand ghetto people who put $1,500 stereos in $400 cars, and the moronic big rim fad.

They take the biggest pile of crap car on the face of the earth and spend several thousand dollars on rims and tires when they could have bought a nice car!!...they even post the inches on the fenders like it's a big deal....and what's with the strange "themes" they always have on the back glass "menace 2 society"," rags 2 bitches","pimpin' ain't easy","livin' large" etc,the creepiest one i've seen said "wicked desires" on the back glass and had airbrushed art of an evil looking clown offering a small girl a lollipop.....it's a weird world.

I spent more than 5k on the engine for my 57 Imperial 4dr sedan, but the car itself is still rough. I will be lucky if it is worth 5k once fully restored. Why do people want their money back? It's well known that you may never get your money back on cars, especially in FL cars if this Dodge is worth 65k restored, why doesnt he spend 20k to fix it up and make a 40k profit?
