Extreme Veteran Posts: 397 Location: Milano, Italy | Can somebody help me with this problem? my wipers stop after one minute or two of functionng. No way to get them to work unless I switch them off and wait some time before retrying.- . So I thought the brushes of the motor were at fault, and I disassembled the motor. : - )) Now, inside it everything is clean, the brushes are in good shape and at half their size. After that, I got two problems to solve: :- ( 1) what could be the possible causes that stopped the motor from working; 2) How do I get the brushes back on the rotor, since they are at the bottom of the cover with the fields, the rotor is square against the brushes sides and of course the brushes won't jump that step by themselves ? Is there some special tool to buy or to make? I thank you for any hint and suggestion.

Expert 5K+ Posts: 6519 Location: Newark, Texas (Fort Worth) | Take a look at page 3 half way down. This may help a little. Do an ohms check on the windings too. Something is heating up and causing a disconnect, check wire connections and the ground. Marc. http://forwardlook.net/forums/forums/thread-view.asp?tid=60008&post...

Extreme Veteran Posts: 397 Location: Milano, Italy |
thank you ! Unfortunately the motor I see in the pics is different from mine. Mine is a one piece costruction ( or maybe its two halves are assembled with a press) and there is no rear cover facilitating the access to the brush set up. Looking down from the top I see the two brush carriers are held together with a small spring but on the other end they seem to floating. Can't see any better than that because the armature is hiding that end. I suppose the brushes shouldn't be floating, as when the motor is turning one brush could move out therefore cutting the contact and stopping the engine.... I stilll wonder how could I open that motor to gain access to the brushes.

I will attach some pics later What a mess.
Edited by lonesome mopar 2016-05-11 2:12 PM

Extreme Veteran Posts: 397 Location: Milano, Italy | UNBELIEVABLE BUT TRUE that is exactly what I did last night - - out of desperation !! - By good luck the bolt holes were lined up with the rear of the brush carrier. I used two small nylon fastener plied to make a hook that grabbed the carriers, as I didn't want to overstretch the spring Thank you very much wizard!! Now, after cleaning the rotor (where the brushes touch), and adding some light grease to the bushing in the cover, the metor seems to work withut stopping. Crossing my fingers....
