I haven't got the car just yet but it is paid for. It is a running rust free 1961 dodge polara sedan. It's going to need a general tune up to get her back roadworthy. Also my girlfriend bought a 64 dodge dart so we both are driving mopars. That's all I have for now. I will keep this updated regularly.

Is that an Air Conditioner I see underneath the dash of the Dart? If so, does it work? Both look like really solid cars! Hope you have fun at the show.

Nice cars! I must ask if those are Ford Galaxie taillight lens on the rear of the Dart?
Let us know when the '61 arrives!

Yes the air conditioning does work. It blows cool after a few minutes of driving. I am not sure about the tail lights. I do plan on adding an under dash unit to mine as well.

Well you certainly got yourself a good, solid sedan there! Congrats. You might want to add power brakes to it! Funny - a top line model Dodge with out Power brakes.

Nice score there Christian. I bet you got a good deal on it and what you save in repair costs will be much more than what you have to pay for shipping. A little clean up and get the body in some Urathane or Epoxy primer and you will be cruis'in.......................MO

Nice score, CB!

One of the things that your car needs (esp. in MS), is A/C.

Finding & installing a complete OEM unit would be a challenge, but that's what this hobby is all about, and, your car is
'rough' enuf that changing-over its dashboard, etcetcetc...to A/C would not mean hurting the car's "already-nice" appearance.

I think what I am going to do is find an old dealer installed AC unit and converted over to R134a. I have a friend that does really good body work. we are going to paint this car together. I am sticking to the original color.

The polara should be arriving in a week or less. I have kept myself occupied rebuilding the brakes on my girlfriends 1964 dart. her dad and I are replacing the trunk pan and it should be finished up by this weekend. when I get my car I am going to rebuild the brakes tune up the engine, clean the car really well, rustproof the undercarriage floors and trunk , and get my friend to paint it.

So far I have cleaned the interior and primed and undercoated the trunk. Car has a lot of options. Im going to hook up the fuel tank tomorrow and start rebuilding the brakes and replace all power steering, fuel hoses, and radiator hoses. Im going to drive the hell outta it! Nah.. But im gonna enjoy it. I got a buddy who is a professional painter and he is going to help me paint it. I am going to replace the foam under the seat covers and get the upholstery shop to restitch all the seams and repair the few minor tears. Did I mention that this car is rust free???

it is official I may be the luckiest person on earth. I have gotten in touch with the previous owner of the car and he has some great news for me. he told me that the engine and transmission were rebuilt and they only have about 5000 miles on them. he is also going to give me the car's life long history. he attached a few pictures of the car in an email.

change the oil , fixed the turn signals, and installed a new water pump as the old one had play in the bearing. The fuel pump and wheel cylinder will be in tomorrow. The rest of the wheel cylinders can be honed. The radio even works in this car..

C.B.---do you realize that is a California black licence plate car? That is valuable to some people. That plate was issued when the car was brand new and stayed with the car when it was sold or traded. IIRC. That is kinda neat as it shows people that the plate was issued to the car when brand new. I got Calif. black plates with my 64 Dodge that was never sold out of the state till I got it. You may be able to register and licence your car and use the black plates you have..I didn't notice, do those plates have a year stamped in them?...........................MO

I pulled the rear brake drums off today. the lining material on the brake shoes came off. so I took the shoes to a local brake shop and I am getting the rear shoes relIned. is it a necessity to get the front shoes relined now?

Not necessarily. The ideal brake system is balanced front and rear and maintains that balance under all conditions. The balance is the result of a lot more then whether the front and rear shoes are "the same". In a simple system there is no way to actually have it balanced in "normal stops" and also balanced in "HARD stops. That's because of weight shifting during a HARD stop. To make the system seem "good" or "powerful" especially when it's not power brakes, the manufacturer "balances" things so that the rear brakes do about half the work. That's fine for "normal" stops. But in a hard stop, where 70% of the weight winds up on the front wheels, that causes the rear brakes (which now only have 30% of the weight) to lock up way before the fronts do. The rear usually goes sideways, possibly spinning the car. So until you have driven the car and get a feel for how well balanced the brakes are in HARD stops I wouldn't worry about redoing the fronts. ANother option is to install a proportioning valve in the rear brake line so you can dial in the split between the front and rear. I had to do that years ago with my 76 4X4 Blazer to keep it from going sideways every time I stopped in the rain. But it made it so the fronts did most of the work in normal stops and consequently the pedal effort went up for normal driving.

The rear (any-) brake shoes will need to be bedded to the linings before you'll really know how they perform.

Casually (and concernedly) ask your shop what the linings' ratings are.

The best lining material is rated FF/FF (Wet/Dry)....but don't volunteer any knowledge to them.

Just say that a friend asked you to find out the stopping-rating of their linings.

That shop had better know, and tell you, the quality of those new linings.

The ratings may well (should) be printed onto the linings, and you could also ask them where the linings were/who
manufactured them.

You shouldn't try to slam-on the brakes, initially, but, several 3/4 efforts, from 50 MPH, slowing down to 30-ish, should give
you some indication of how the rears and fronts will work out, together.

After that, you can stop from 30-40 MPH a few times, over several days, but I would not suggest over-heating the new linings
(even on the lazy-rears) which might cause them to glaze over.

I'd still recommend that you get some wrecking yard brake shoes and get them re-lined by Firm Feel; that way you can do an A:B
comparison with your existing front shoes, or install them and, then, have your local shop re-line the existing ones--if you really
want to do a "fresh" A:B comparison.

Well, I have got the relined shoes back. It will be a few days before I can work on the car again. I will finish up the rear brakes soon and rebuild the carberator. I will wait until my friend has a free day so he can help me install the rebuilt poiwer steering gear box. Not much longer and this car will be road ready.

trying to finish up these rear brakes and fix a bad off idle stumble. Replaced the spark plug wires , cleaned the spark plugs , and rebuilt the carburetor which was already rebuilt. I still need to adjust the points a little bit. Hopefully this will cure the stumble.

The last car I had with an off idle stumble cleared up with a change in the initial advance setting so don't rule that out.

Not sure why but I missed the original post on your car........

I might be in a minority group because I like 4 door sedans but too bad....

Not sure why but I really like the look of '61 Dodge's, they kinda have a "sad" looking front which is the opposite to my '59 Dodge's "angry "looking front.

I really dig the original "as found "condition of your Dodge I'd be proud to own that one !!

Good find there, and doubly good getting hold of it's past history too.

I like
